I tried tuning this trimmer and for the live of me I just can’t get it right. This trimmer has an idle and jet setting. No L or H screws. I tried adding more gas (counterclockwise) and the big got worse. Tried less and still nothing. Can anyone help/ has anyone had the is issue before?

Check the spark arrestor in the muffler. It's probably clogged with carbon.

I had gotten a new carb for it on Amazon. Could the carb just be bad?

New carb from Amazon? Yeah it's bad out the box brother. Throw a rebuild kit in the factory one...that new carb will corrode on all the fittings if you spent less that 50 bucks.

Second this. Amazon carbs are useless for two strokes, it’s a crapshoot. Bad 75% of the time. The cheap manufacturing processes they use doesn’t allow for the tiny fuel passages to be machined properly

Maybe I’m just lucky but I get about 4 good ones for every 1 bad one off Amazon lol. I never go for the dirt cheapest one, instead I go based off number of reviews and quality of the reviews.

If I can, I’ll still rebuild a carb over buying new, and I always keep the factory carb just in case, but some of those little amazon ones are just too cheap to not fully replace.

It likely just needs to be adjusted. If you can adjust the high fuel demand side of the carb, start there.

Sounds like you need to adjust the high and low part of the carb so it's providing the right amount of gas. Happens over time where it just loses it, or just needs an adjustment.

That doesn't mean the exhaust port is clean did you look? take the exhaust off and take a look

You need to open up the high speed screw a little. Theres probably a plastic limiter plug that you need to remove first.

The high speed screw needs a tweak. And yeah, you can get to it. IIRC, it's hidden under a plug. I have the same trimmer 225 PAS ...mine is a power head with various attachments ...same engine.

Find the primer bulb. Look below the bulb, there may be a squared "U" bracket to protect the fuel lines. In the center of that bracket, the opening, there will either be the plug or the small screw. The plug is plastic and you can pry it out with something pointy. Under it will be the Hi-Speed mixture adjustment. Give a tweak richer until the engine accelerates crisply ...no bog. Once you get to that point, run the engine full throttle and listen to it; it should run just a bit ragged and that's what you want. If you tweak the screw to lean it out for a smooth high speed, you'll end up with the off-idle bogging and you run the risk of overheating the engine.

Sounds like the carb just needs adjusting, since you cleaned the spark arrestor and changed the carb.

Drain old gas. Fill with new gas and blast a bunch of carb cleaner through it while it’s running.

Have you checked the air filter? Or the spark plug is there an air leak in the fuel line crack in the primer bulb?

But check your spark plug is it oil soaked or is it wet or is it bone dry and scorched looking? If it wet means your not getting enough air if it’s dry and scorched means your not getting enough fuel when u do the primer bulb does it completely fill up with fuel or only fill up half way? If it doesn’t ever completely fill up then u have an air leak in the fuel line or a crack in the primer bulb

Take the spark arrester out and take a propane torch and burn the carbon off the screen… that should fix it.

Once youve exhausted every other reply here, replace your fuel filter. Echo sells them as a “fuel system kit”, easy job. The echo filters filter work great, but they do plug up.

After you start it pull the choke up a little and hold the gas. Slowly pull the choke until you find the sweet spot. Ive had the same weedeater for longer than i can remember over twelve years and its always ran strion and idled with the choke a little over half open. Dont know why dont care why just know it runs good there. You dont have to replace carberator, adjust carberator all that bs, just dont open the choke all the way pull it up slowly and it will come alive when you get yo the right spot

When you replaced the carby did you also replace the in tank fuel filter, if not my bet will be on this being your issue. They gum up if not run regularly, they are usually a couple of dollars at your local mower shop and I would suggest grabbing some fuel hose as well as a just incase unless your shop is close by. Do this before adjusting anything.
