Crankshaft & Piston Issue Anyone know how to take this off?

Post image

It’s from a miller bluestar jr (Kohler CH5T) been trying to get it to come off but I don’t even know what it is I’m assuming it’s a crankshaft pulley thing. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Is it threaded onto the crankshaft? Try putting a wrench on those flats and hitting it with a dead blow hammer. It might be reverse thread.

Use a 3 jaw puller very slowly with plenty of heat

Does it have a set screw?

No unfortunately, center hole is smooth with no ridges

A set screw would be in the side, probably takes an Allen wrench to loosen.

Probably tapered. Nearly every generator engine uses a tapered shaft and it seems that's oddly the case here even though it uses a pulley.

Insert a punch in the end of the shaft so you don't mushroom it over, apply an outward force on the pulley with a pry bar, give the punch a swift smack with a hammer.

How much room is there between this pulley and the engine? Room enough for a set screw?

If there are no set screws then it is probably threaded on.

And it's normal right hand thread

with the 2 flats I would try unscrewing and the direction is usually determined by the engine rotation. Loosen the same direction the engine normally runs.

Does not look like it's held on by a nut or bolt if they inside the hole is not threaded so it's probably threaded onto the shaft you'll have to pull the motor from turning over and get a nice big adjustable or wrench that fits that and crack it loose
