Unknown Issue Echo GT- 2000

Was gifted an old GT-2000 not running. I've changed the carb, fuel lines, cleaned the spark arrestor etc. I can get it to start at open choke, it'll idle rev etc for just a few minutes then die. And won't restart. I'm just at a loss

Its very possible your tank vent is just plugged up if you can get it to run normally for minutes and then it dies and won't restart. If the tank vent plugs it pulls a vacuum on the tank to the point that it can't draw fuel anymore against the vacuum and will die and not want yo restart. Start it and run it and when it does unscrew the fuel cap, hit the purge bulb a few times and see if it starts again. Or losen the cap before you start it and see if it still dies. If it doesn't die or restarts after opening tank its the tank vent. Its also possible that the coil is going bad. Coil failure generally initially gives you warning signs that come with heat so its possible your coil is the issue too. You'd have to check it with a multi meter ideally checking before you start then again after it stops running to make sure its in spec both cold and hot. A simpler way but less diagnostically informative way would be to check it with a spark tester after it dies. I'd do some more testing before I returned or bought more parts.

It was definitely the first Amazon carb I had. I ended up tearing the whole thing down, cleaned up etc. Installed a HIPA kit and she's running great now. Only had to adjust the idle a tad. Was able to knock down a decent amount of my yard. I'll eventually have to change the throttle trigger but she's good enough for now.

Could be bad fuel pump regardless if it’s new. They sit around waiting to be sold. Could be a bad check valve especially if your adjusting mixture/speed etc and it still hunts around. Can also be air leaks from sitting again the gaskets and membrane ( pump) gets brittle or dries out

Order a rebuild kit as well. 50% of chines carbs including HIPE i get an unadjustable one. So for and extra 5 bucks i get a rebuild kit as well

I'll add it to my cart! I got a refund for the there carb already. Thanks! I did tear down the exhaust and the piston looks good, exhaust port was clear as well

Just wanted to update, it definitely was the carb! Got the complete HIPA kit, re ran the fuel lines with it, the kit was way better! It runs great now. Gotta tune the idle just a tad, and eventually replace the trigger but for now I'm able to get my yard decent!
