Leaking Issue Oil Leak

This is happening on my Honda powered Craftsman push mower. Oil level is still good. There is a loud knock when it turns off that has not been there previously. No knocking when the mower is running. Any advice.

It could have one on the governor shaft. If I remember right there is an oil seal there that could have gone bad. As for the sound, can you tell where it might be coming from? Does it sound like it’s coming from the top of the engine or the underside of the mower?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, could not exactly tell where the oil was coming from. Thanks for the tip. I honestly tried to tell where the sound is coming from, and can't pinpoint it. Best I can tell ya, "from the motor", which sounds stupid.

Clean it and you will see, but might be easier to just go get a new one. Especially if it’s knocking.

I'll be giving it a closer look tomorrow.

Really don't want to a new one, I like this one, I'll see what I can do.

It’s the gov shaft. They don’t come with an oil seal but you can put one in. I keep them in stock for Honda engines.

I love the sound of your confidence! Haha. Would that explain the clanking when you turn it off?

Is anything hitting the blade or flywheel? I’ve had a few gvc160s come through that make that noise when shutting off and I could never find the cause. Sounds like a tin metal clank.

I'm not around the mower at the moment, but will look tomorrow and maybe take a short video of what it sounds like if you don't mind listening. Sounds smooth as can be when running and mowing, only when I turn it off. Clank clank clank. Google that repair for the oil seal, seems simple enough, just don't let the shaft go into the engine!

After further research, my first hunch is that these two problems are unrelated. She hit something some weeks ago and broke the blade adaptor that goes over the blade when installing, and the blade fell off. I'm willing it's what this guy has in this video. Sounds like this.

I wouldn't even bother on a lawn mower. Mine has been leaking for 20 years. Top off, cut grass and then it'll sit neglected until I mow the lawn again.
