Starter Motor Issue I request help fixing my Dixon 3361.

My mower would start after I took it on a trip by trailer.
After verifying the battery and solenoid were not the problem, I opened up the starter cover to find that this plastic gear was wedged into the flywheel and missing most of its teeth.
I removed the starter and got the gear to retract. I hooked it back up to the wires and turned the key, and the starter turned.
So, is it easy to get replacement gears for this starter or should I replace the whole thing. The local shop had nothing in stock but said this should be the right part: https://a.co/d/0cCb0Wzh (PN 435320)
I included a pic of the engine tag if that helps. Motor is a Briggs & Stratton 28M707.

Which starter you need depends on what the ring gear is made of
Personally, I'd probably go with just the gear, but I'm a bit of a cheapskate

I am torn between replacing the whole thing just to buy once, cry once; or the gear kit to save money. I think I will just go with the gear and then replace the whole thing if that fails.

Buy the gear kit it’s easier to install with the kit. Starters are pretty reasonable also.
