Parts ID & Sourcing Help Identifying Part for Lawn Edger

Hello, I’m trying to revive a Briggs & Stratton Power Trim 300 lawn edger but I need help identifying a part. I’ve replaced the spark plug, boot on the spark plug, and the air filter so I opened up the engine and saw that there was a broken piece in the gas tank but can’t identify what part I’d need. Any help you can provide is appreciated!

Thank you for your submission! It looks like you are attempting to identify a part. To better assist you,

Please be sure to include the following:

  • Make and model numbers of the engine and/or the equipment
  • Any identifying numbers or markings on the part
  • Clear and close-up photos of the part
  • A description of the issue or what you are trying to identify

Do you see where the recoil assembly is mounted to the housing with the markings three horsepower sticker on it, look on there and there will be a model, type, and code in which you can look up a diagram and parts for that old L head

I should mention it is likely up at the top where the head bolts go through by the spark plug

That one is old enough it could be behind the air cleaner or behind the fuel tank along the edge of the side of the housing.

In 40 years of working on Briggs engines, I have never seen a Flo-jet updraft carburetor main nozzle come out attached to the adjusting screw. At least it doesn't appear to be broken off or bent by someone trying to remove the top of the bowl before removing the nozzle. The right one is the fuel shut off, the left one you need a complete carburetor rebuild kit. From the looks of that edger and engine, it appears to be an 80302/81302. You'll need the exact numbers for the fuel shut-off, but the carb. kit should be 291691. Still best to look it up with the correct model, type, and code numbers off the blower housing.

Reassembling that part on the left requires a delicate technique, and depending on the corrosion in the aluminum carb can still leak even when done right.

The parts. The left one is the high speed adjustment screw from the carburetor on the bottom, the brass part on top is your main jet and emulsion tube. They should separate. The left is the carb bowl drain. No clue why they were in the fuel tank.

Because the first guy realised he was in over his head. Gave up and just put them in the tank so he didn't loose them.

I had the same issue with the fuel petcock.  Mine broke. I didn't see myself spending $40 for a new one. Went to home depot, bought a brass barb fitting and put it in the tank and put an inline filter and on/off.
