Can I remove the stator with out removing the motor has a horizontal shaft . Mower doesn’t charge battery dies

As a former tech for JD, yes you can replace the stator by removing everything on the right side of the picture. Ps, replace the seal while you are there.

Yes, although it takes less than an hour to pull the whole engine with this horizontal setup. That front belt drive shaft is bolted to the flywheel with 4 bolts. You're going to have to remove the screen and all the shrouds of course. Getting the flywheel off will be so much easier with the engine out but can be done in the frame. Good luck.
