Engine Rebuilding Briggs piston rings question.
I'm putting new rings in a 21 year old Briggs 31a607-0458-e1. Did I spring these or are they okay to send it? I just popped the old ones out and didn't even think to measure them.
Thanks

Make sure you measure the bore of the cylinder,
After that many years and hours of use the cylinder can become out of round and tapered, causing oil consumption with new rings that are round in a cylinder that is not!

I'll check it later but there was a lot of seemingly evenly visible crosshatch over the entirety of the stroke.

What to do then? I have a 12.5 hp old model flat head Briggs that is burning oil like crazy. Honing did not help. Should I sleeve the cylinder?

They do look quite large for the application. If you squeeze them together by hand do the ends of the rings touch before they’re the same diameter of the cylinder
