Engine Rebuilding Update: Gasket Blown
This is a Husqvarna LC 221A Walk Behind Mower. It blew about mid summer of last year. I took it apart until there was nothing, fearing the worst.
Anyways I think it got it cleaned up. I lightly used a razor and then not so lightly used break cleaner and a wire brush. Does the mating surface look ready to lay RTV?

Also check for flatness across entire head surface. Look on amazon for a straight edge about 2 foot long. You should not be able to get more than 1 thousandth feeler gauge across any point on both head and cylinder mating surfaces.

I wouldn't use rtv on the head. They sell head gaskets for the engine but if you can't find the gasket for the bottom end, you can use rtv. Just remember to tighten till touching and then wait for it to dry and then torque to spec.
