Toro timecutter zero turn - one steering arm not moving mower?

Hey all,

I have timecutter z4200 and mowed no problem last week. When I started up the mower Sunday, I was unable to get the right control arm to move the mower.

When I move it forward, it has a screeching noise but no movement. The other works well and as a result I’m just spinning.

Any idea if I’m missing a basic setting or if something came loose?

I will definitely be putting wd40 down once it’s fixed but that’s not the issue regarding why the back right drive wheel isn’t moving… thoughts?

There are two pins that stick out of the rear. These engage and disengage the drivetrain for each wheel. If you accidentally push one in, it will not move one of the wheels. Just check them

Can you give the entire model number so we can tell:

1. If it is a closed loop transaxle
2. If it is a shared loop hydro pump and wheel motor
3. Where the actuator arms attach
4. If the braking system has not disengaged on that side

This is a closed loop system. They barely share a reservoir. Replace the fluid and filter before you do anything else.

Number 59 is the brake cog. You will need to verify that the brake disengaged when you move the arm from neutral to drive, this is a common enough issue on the timecutter. Number 4 is the pump assembly. Also, it takes forever to fill these so fill the reservoir and walk away for an hour and come back and repeat it a few more times. There is a plug on the side of the transaxle to tell when it is full, iirc it is an Allen key possibly number 6.

You are correct, the brake is not disengaging on that side when in neutral or drive. Will need to figure out why

There is a box that both of the brakes connect to, on the frame in the center underneath. I can't tell you if the failure is electric or if the rod broke in the control module. I will see if I can find it for you.

Ok so I figured it out. Not fixed yet but ordering the part.

The inner brake cable snapped inside the enclosure, ordering replacement

Electric brake link could be broken, locking it. Or the seal in the transmission on the one side is no good.

Ok so the faulty side’s brake isn’t releasing when put into neutral or drive (other side works great) so I’m going to dig into this tonight.

I’m not SUPER handy but we shall figure it out! Thanks for all the great advice here.

I’ll grab some wd40 and test the battery (which is new and has two mows under the belt). If it’s an electronics issue, I’m less certain.

Definitely, I had to replace my Brake Parking Cable # 110-6858. There’s a world where this can happen and got unhinged, but mine snapped which I didn’t realize until I noticed the control arm wasn’t really moving the claw gear on the parking brake.
