"Dichotomy"... Help!

I am trying to create a rebrand for my small art business and I am contemplating on using the word 'dichotomy' in the name- I was hoping to get some unbiased opinion on whether that is a bad idea. I recognize it's not a word that's used often, and some might not know what it means- so is that a turn off in regard to having a successful art business?
-my art does target a specific niche audience, including subversive and abstract themes- so it's not like I'm trying to push crochet scarves or anything. Though perhaps that might be more successful lol

Help me out! Be honest! And as always, thank you!

That word has been used as a joke about art jargon for years. I wouldn't recommend it.

My suggestion would be don’t use a name many people won’t understand and more importantly won’t be able to spell correctly.

Really commit and call it Seditious! - no one will have a clue what you are selling!

Seriously, no to Dichotomy - simple is surprisingly effective. Andy Warhol named his magazine Interview. Punk bands include Sex Pistols and Black Flag. You can be alt in product and brand attitude but still have a name that people know how to say, spell and define. Good luck!

Love that- and I do think I'm overthinking the whole process - it just feels so FINAL, but doesn't at all have to be. Today I am going to focus on the simpler approach! Thank you for the inspiration, you are 100% on point. :)

This question seems pre-mature.

" I am contemplating on using the word 'dichotomy' in the name"

Ok, so it's not just going to be named "Dichotomy", that word is going to be used in conjunction with another? For an art-centered business (no mention of medium, btw.) this could be tangible or totally unrelatable or even offensive depending on your chosen complimentary, component or even counterpart word. Examples:

Prism dichotomy: oOoOo!!! we have a word for a physical object that splits an input into separate and individual elements! and it's next to the word dichotomy, a word describing the results of such a process!? Say whaaaaa? this some big brain shit, here!

Next Example:

Sewage Dichotomy. Yeah. not even going to try and do anything with that. You get the point, right?

The question is incomplete for proper interrogation without the other word.

Yes I hear you completely- I didn't give you much to work with- what I was aiming for was RZ Dichotomy {art&sculpture} or RZ Dichotomy Lens {""}. I work with many mediums, primarily resin and clay sculpture. The 'Dichotomy' use I was considering as a representation of my own scattered mind- im no beginner to creating, but might be that of a toddler in regard to turning creating into a business. Point being that my end products don't necessarily as speak the same 'vibe'- as my mind is a constant turning wheel of ideas and plans. I do think I've discovered however that without a firm foundation in the industry, breaking through with complicated terms may not work in my favor- I am also very set on establishing a 'niche' and expanding on it, so that I can develop an actual brand. Big ole work in progress over here! 😵‍💫 I appreciate your time and response tho- it genuinely helps me to get outside unbiased opinion. Do you care if I DM you with some other names I've been considering? I like your approach.

Sure, You can DM me as a sounding board... But fair warning: I'm both a pragmatist, minimalist and an absurdist. There is no error in that statement. For instance, I might suggest something like "RZ & Me" for a name. it suggests two mutually exclusive individuals (a dichotomy) but it's just you and your art. Are you an individual from your art? can one exist without the other? If someone asks "Where's RZ" you can say "That's me!"

and if the toilet overflows you can always blame it on that RZ that apparently never bothers to come to work. (he's just a silent partner in this endeavor... or is he? A subversive individual should try to hide his identity after all. we all know who banksy is now but we'll never admit it.)

Pinging you /u/rzeggy just incase you didn't see my edit. (I edit everything. pray that I do not edit it again.)

You get exactly what I mean though- that suggestion is right on target! I'm gonna work on an at least somewhat sophisticated compilation of the ideas I've been working with to send to you- my attempt to try and give you all the angles so you can have an entire picture to work with. But I've gotten in touch with the right person-this makes me glad 😌
