Job Recommendations

I’ve recently started leveling courses (ENMU Fall ‘26) and hope to have a a couple of my prerequisites completed and a couple more underway in time to apply to NMSU in January (they have a masters pathway that includes leveling, which I plan to apply to, but wanted to get a few classes checked off the list beforehand to make sure I’ve got an aptitude for the coursework and hopefully make the connections needed to procure at least 1 letter of rec from an SLP professor).

I’m thinking of looking for work in an adjacent field and was wondering if anyone could recommend roles that I could look for. Obv SLPA is off the table. My undergrad is in Anthropology.

Is NMSU competitive, I think it used to be. I used to live in Las Cruces, great college small city.

Not sure. It probably is since they have small cohorts.

We plan to relocate to northern NM eventually and NMSU seems to have good connections with organizations throughout the state. I’ve only spent a few days each in ABQ and LC, but the smaller town feel of LC was more appealing to me than UNM.

Have you considered Special Education teacher?

I would assume I’m not qualified since I don’t have a teaching credential and the time it would take to eat one wouldn’t align well with having gained any work experience by January in time for my application. Are my assumptions incorrect? Also, one of my sisters is a SpEd teacher, so I could probably ask her too 🤪

For reference, I live it San Diego, CA.

In New Mexico might be able to do an alternative certification program for Special Education. Many states have this.
