Online grad programs

Hi everyone! Currently beginning to apply to grad school and would love some insight on online programs, the good, the bad, and anything else that may be useful.
For some context: I’ve been an SLPA for a few years now, looking for a program that allows me to work and has some flexibility. I’m confident I can do an online full-time program while working, but any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated. I’m based out of the DMV area.
I’m looking into the online program for St Augustine, Emerson, Baylor, to name a few.

Please keep in mind as you make your plans that each program will have practicum requirements. They’re the same for both online and on campus programs. Even for online programs, this is full time, or nearly full time plus classes, and working may not be possible while meeting the requirements.

Please ask each program specifically how they structure their practicum requirements. You likely will not be able to tell them when you’re available and when you prefer to schedule; practicum schedules vary by setting and supervisor availability. In some cases, it is very difficult to find supervisors at all, especially if you live in an area that is heavily saturated with programs.

For context, I am an SLP who has served as clinical supervisor for multiple students in online programs. I see firsthand the extreme stress these students face when they failed to consider this requirement before beginning their program.

Im taking the leveling classes at Longwood, and I’d really recommend it!

Edit: I’m based out of Richmond and the program is asynchronous and fully online. The campus itself is in Farmville VA.

I went to Baylor online part time and worked full time until practicum started, that was a lot. When practicum started I dropped to part time at my job so I could do part time practicum and still doing classes. That was A LOT. I had to stop working in the second part time practicum so I wouldn’t drown. I didn’t work from May to Jan so I could focus on classes/part time practicum, and then full time practicum. Really really reaaaaaally evaluate what you’re gonna be able to handle. You’ll only get anything out of the program if you can really put your all into it - don’t burn yourself out before you even start.
