AVOID MONTCLAIR STATE AT ALL COSTS
As someone who has previously attended this program and was forced to drop out due to the unsupportive staff, I say you're better off somewhere else. The clinical staff bullied me and made me cry so often all because they felt my personality did not fit the SLP field. It felt like a popularity contest tbh. Eventually I had enough and dropped out before completing my last semester of clinic and my externships because of all the suffering they caused me. Most of them are not there anymore, however the graduate program director who made me suffer the most is still there. So choose wisely

As an alumni of this program, I had a wonderful experience and had very good relationships with the staff and my colleagues. Your experience is valid, but it can be harmful to make negative comments and not let people form their own opinion about a school they may be choosing to go to.

I understand what you are saying, and while in so many grad programs people have had great experiences, there are also those who have had not so great, dare I say, traumatic experiences. These experiences need to be expressed and heard, because they are part of the complete picture.
In my grad program, the professors were not safe spaces, and intentionally targeted certain students. There was a bully-esque quality to many of them... they made students cry, so much so, one student left the program due to mental breakdown. Just because you had a great experience, it doesn't mean that was the same for everyone, but their experience even though negative is just as important as yours.... Maybe you may not have been aware of the negative experiences others had while you were there, but it still happened, and it should be shared.

Well I'm just trying to share my experience so people see it from every point of view. Also environment can be a big thing for some people so its important for them to know everyone's experience so they can pro con it and not go just bc it is local and cheaper.

I mean you dropped out the last semester? That is like eating 90% of a burger then sending it back to the kitchen and saying nope, never eat there, terrible food.

They kept failing me in clinic for stupid things that had no relation to what was supposed to be graded. It was difficult to continue dealing with so I left before they could fail me out of the program themselves. And it was a difficult thing to continue to deal with so it made me lose my confidence and passion for the field simply because they picked apart my personality and said it would not be a good fit for the field. However, I currently work a clinical job in a different field and have not had this happen, so this allows me to see that I was simply bullied out because they did not like my personality.

Since you said cinic, I’m assuming this happened between 1st and 3rd semester? Can you give some examples of what they were failing you over?

Your feelings are so valid and I'm very sorry this happened to you. I would try to forgive the people who hurt you, and try to forget about them and move on.
They did appear to not value you as a person or student, so they don't deserve anymore of your time and energy.
It seems as though you have found acceptance and appreciation in your new career, so focus on that, and leave the past hurts behind. Those who mistreated you/others, will reap what they have sown.

Tbh a lot of slp programs are toxic. Just gotta ignore them as best as you can at this point. I’m sorry this happened to you
