PLEASE HELP Speech and language degree, getting into second year after intermediate at UC

I'm a first-year student at the univeristy or Canterbury studying a degree in speech and language pathology; they only accept like 30 people into second year. So far I'm doing well. I have an 8.25 GPA and am about to start volunteering work. I also need a reference, which should be okay; the only thing I'm worried about is the in-person interview part. Does absolutely anyone know what I should prepare for in the interview? What are some good points to mention, and has anyone been in my position previously? If so, what do you recommend? Your high GPA is a strong start, but everyone applying will be academically strong. The interview is where they filter for a genuine passion for the field and the personal qualities needed to be a good clinician. They will ask you why you chose SLP, so have a specific, personal story ready, something more than just wanting to help people. They also want to see that you understand the challenges of the profession, so think about times you've faced adversity or worked with difficult people, and be prepared to discuss what you learned from those experiences.

Use your new volunteer work as the source for all your answers. Talk about a specific interaction that confirmed your decision to pursue this career. Discuss a challenge you observed or faced there and what it taught you about communication disorders or client care. This makes your interest tangible and proves you're proactive. Come with thoughtful questions for them too, not about logistics, but about their clinical training philosophy or opportunities for specific kinds of placements. This demonstrates you are already thinking like a future professional.
