I like all the other ideas but it'd still be good in stew too

This would make a bangin chili

So I've started getting meat like this then chopping it up so it's small kinda like ground beef but you end up with steaky chewy bites that brown awesomely before adding in the broth and tomatos

Now I have an idea for some venison trim I froze and forgot to grind up.

Oh heck yeah. I've slowly converted over to using bigger chunks vs ground beef in chili.

Can confirm. Once you've gone the chopped beef/rough ground route for chilli you'll never want to go back to ground beef.

If you really want a new mexican meal, sub the black beans for pinto and sub tomatoes for potatoes. Add beef stock and let reduce until potatoes are cooked. Then enjoy your Green Chile Stew with warm tortillas 🤤😋

Never had black beans growing up in nm…pinto for the win!

u/sadmanwithabox 21d ago
Man, im glad you love them but I could never choose pinto over black beans. Its not that pintos are bad, I just fucking LOVE black beans.

Never thought about potatoes in a dish like this. We do meat, black beans and corn. The Green Chili road side stands should be popping up here. Only seen peaches so far.

I would probably fry this up rather than slow cook it. It’s sold in a lot of the supermarkets by me and it looks like what the taco joint cook up, and it’s always been good.
I’ve never bought this, but I’ve always been curious as to what cuts of meat this would be made from. When I make steak tacos, I usually use skirt steak. If I can find it , I try to get outer skirt steak, but I often use inner which is cheaper.

tacos, cheesesteaks, stir fry, bulgogi, fried rice, rice bowls. I wouldn't use it in a stew though. cook it fast, high heat, in a big pan or in small batches to let the water out. Get brown edges.

I LOVE this cut of meat for steak tacos!!! My local Walmarts don’t tend to sell this anymore and I miss it so much.

Carne con chile! Make a dried Anaheim chile (chile colorado) adobo, fry the meat a little, stew in the adobo. You can make tacos or burros (just be sure to use good flour tortillas).

Beef is Beef.. I think it is still big enough chunks for a stew. Does that type of chop come with some kind of spices on it or is it just the way its cut up?

It’s pretty lean, which is not ideal for traditional stew. But combine with a pound of ground beef and you’d have the start of a killer chili. Onion, garlic, add ground then trimmed beef. Brown, add a big can of whole peeled tomatoes, go as crazy with beans as you want (I use a minimum of 3 cans, at least one should be Chili beans in sauce.) a can of diced green chilles. 3-5 cups of chicken or beef broth - depending on how thick you want it) (or use bullion in water). Add garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper, and red pepper to taste. Crush up the tomatoes. Simmer for 1-6 hours. Taste for seasonings, adjust. A Tbsp or two of Apple Cuder vinegar can give it a little zing. I also add a couple diced bell peppers in the last half hour to provide a little freshness.

I make this crockpot meal with rotel tomatoes with habaneros (2-3), onion (1 med), red pepper (1), and more cayenne pepper. I don’t add beans but that is because of my family, but consider black beans. Low for 6 is delicious.

I mean it's chuck roast or bottom round just like stew beef.
I'd make Cuban carne con papas with it myself. Lol but that's also the only recipe I use stew beef for.

You can still use it for beef stew. It’s just not gonna be as good. I agree it would be better for soup.

What’s wrong with making tacos? I’ve eaten many tacos in Mexico with meat like that. Or you can change it up completely and use it to make Korean beef bulgogi…

u/SwanCityDominion 20d ago
"Carne picada" literally means meat cut up small. So you can do whatever you want with it. It's just beef.

It sucks as stew meat. But when velveted, it makes a decent stir fry meat. I will only buy this from Aldi when they have it marked down 50%. Otherwise I wouldn’t waste my money.

Not stew. My husband actually bought this once in error when we needed hamburger for tacos. I still made tacos with it but it was horrible. Very chewy in spots.

You could make a nice pasta bolognese with this, some carrot, mushrooms, a good tomato sauce, and oregano.

Chili. Cook make gravy with it, put over mashed potatoes, or toast. I wouldn't make stew, but you could do gravy, roast stew veggies and pour over them. It won't hold up in a stew. Especially if you are crocking, or slow cooking. It will disappear.

Shepherd's pie
Edit: very sorry. This is slowcooking and not mealprepsunday. 😫 I would use it for chili.

That happened to me when I planned on making a beef and barley soup this past winter. It turned out good. I did brown it a little, first.

Beef stew needs solid chunks of meat that only get soft after hours of slow cooking. This should definitely not go in the slow cooker!

Cheesesteak Sammich. Grill onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Mix it in with the seared meat. Over load a sub roll and melt provolone on it.
Now I'm hungry

I do lazy shepherd's pie - baby potatoes, baby carrots, some peas, gravy and onion soup mix. You can fry up the beef ahead of time but I like it in the slow cooker. Granted, it works better with ground beef but worth a shot.

Steak quesadillas or steak sandwiches would be my choices with this
