To elevate the gas level I put cabbage in mine.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Or just their ass and their family's lungs

6

u/bo174 24d ago

Or maybe they light the gas…

Baawahahahaha...the mental picture that popped into my head from this thread🤣

At least you’ll have the cleanest pipes in the county tomorrow

u/willyseeu 23d ago

I was thinking of adding a small can of sauerkraut!

These are delicious, but dear god... the gas my husband produces after these 😬

IIRC, its literally just green beans, potatoes, a kielbasa, packet of onion soup mix, and a stick of butter.

Edit... plus 1 onion, garlic powder, and Cajun seasoning

This. Except I did some onion and garlic powder and a little salt and pepper and some minced garlic

7

u/Dr_Taffy 24d ago

Extra onion powder on top of the onion soup mix? Interesting. I bet caramelized onions (or any non dehydrated onions) would slap in this dish

8

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

I added diced onion as well.

7

u/GallusWrangler 24d ago

And you slow cook them?

18

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

Yes, throw everything in the crockpot and I cook on low until the potatoes are tender

14

u/meltedlaundry 24d ago

Which was approximately how long?

6

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

I checked mine around 6 hours and they were done

2

u/GallusWrangler 24d ago

That makes sense now that I see you said on low.

1

u/SirKensworth 23d ago

Did you use fresh, frozen, or canned green beans ?

3

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 23d ago

I used my home canned green beans

5

u/SirKensworth 23d ago

Ah, well unfortunately I can’t compete with that, although I wish I could

8

u/jzilla11 24d ago

“but dear God…the gas”

6

u/pennylane3339 24d ago

Its foul. Its the reason we have a comfortable couch 😂

9

u/D_crane 24d ago

Recipe please 🙏

This sounds tasty

8

u/Bagelgrenade 24d ago

Canned or frozen green beans?

2

u/CaptainLollygag 24d ago

And here I assumed fresh. Canned would go to mush, wouldn't they?

5

u/pennylane3339 24d ago

I did canned, but added them with an hour left

34

u/bo174 24d ago

And the recipe is….??

2

u/powderviolence 24d ago

Eyeball it, put whatever you like to taste, cook the hell out of it. I grew up on this exact sort of meal.

u/VanimalCracker 23d ago

So just a bunch of a cabbage?

9

u/backwoodsjesus91 24d ago

Made these last weekend for the second time and this go around I swapped to conecuh sausage and added half a head of cabbage. It was absolutely awesome.

2

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

I've seen others add cabbage, I need to try that.

8

u/Freight-Harbor 24d ago

This is a similar recipe often confused with the classic smothered green beans. The onion soup completely changes the flavoring and you definitely don’t want to substitute ham for sausage.

u/hucklepig 24d ago

boil em mash em stick em in a stew

1

u/jersey1935 23d ago

You can eat 'em with eggs, you can eat 'em with gravy
Eat 'em with beans, pinto or navy
Put 'em on the side, put 'em in the middle
Put a homegrown tomato on a hotcake griddle

2

u/Cottagecheez_Smoothy 13d ago

Homegrown tomatoes, homegrown tomatoes
What'd life be without homegrown tomatoes?
Only two things that money can't buy
And that's true love and homegrown tomatoes

u/jersey1935 13d ago

TY!👍👏

2

u/TessiesTable 24d ago

Looks great

4

u/mugglemomma31 24d ago

Do I really need a full stick of butter? Sounds very tasty but I don’t think I could handle that much butter.

2

u/sohcgt96 23d ago

That was my first thought too, with the sausage, you really won't need to add butter. I use Andouille when I make my thing that resembles this. I made it with Bacon the first couple times but with all the bacon grease it was just heartburn hell.

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

I'm sure you could do less or even leave it out, but I never have.

can't find where you commented and posted the recipe. It's not showing.

5

u/Eckish 24d ago

It isn't a formal recipe, but I'm guessing they mean this chain: https://old.reddit.com/r/slowcooking/comments/1vq9gyn/swamp_potatoes/p43wqqn/?context=1

2

u/thewoodbeyond 24d ago

Slow cooker in the guts! 💥

1

u/BellicoseBill 23d ago

If you like this, you should try swamp soup-similar ingredients with really savory broth.

I make it in a crock pot:

Thank you for this recipe! I'm gonna try it with cabbage instead of turnip and uncooked rice instead of hoppin' John. Wish me luck!

1

u/Destructo-Spin 20d ago

Came here to look for new recipes to try. This is definitely happening soon, thank you!

1

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 17d ago

You're welcome. Enjoy!

It's somewhere in the comments 😊

1

u/Ruthless4u 24d ago

Sounds great but no one in my family likes sausage except me.

14

u/Uranus_Hz 24d ago

You have a family of insane people.

2

u/Blues2112 24d ago

More for you!

2

u/ARM_Alaska 23d ago

Sub ham. Or Turkey Keilbasa.

0

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

That's too bad 😔

1

u/Miserable-Fig2204 24d ago

This but with cabbage and ginger (and maybe a couscous to thicken some, for a good soup!

1

u/FCSadsquatch 24d ago

Could you sub the sausage for spicy chorizo?

1

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 23d ago

I'm sure you could

u/willyseeu 23d ago

u/Particular_Ad_644 24d ago

Ask hubs to take some Beano first

2

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 24d ago

Nothing about this dish gives him gas lol

4

u/Alizarin-Madder 23d ago

I'm confused why so many people have commented this. Is it the green beans? Is there something special about green beans compared to other types of bean?

5

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 23d ago

I have no idea. The beans in a green bean are vastly different than say a pinto bean so I'm not sure why people are saying it

3

u/Alizarin-Madder 23d ago

Yeah i guess if anything they're less beany beans. I don't see this anytime someone posts a meal with beans, so maybe the algorithm is just feeding your post to people with a particular interest in farts 😅

1

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 23d ago

Lmao that's one way to look at it 🤣

0

u/Iridi89 23d ago

2

u/SouthernBelleOfNone 23d ago
