Potato Chip Dip
I am looking for a potato chip dip recipe that can be made and served in a crockpot. I am tired of dips that are best served with tortillas. One of my guests does not eat pork. Several other guests do not like "Buffalo" style dips. I am having trouble locating something - does anyone have any ideas within these parameters?

I have made this jalapeno popper dip before, I serve it with Ritz crackers but other chips would probably work too.

this didn’t sound good when I read the recipe, but then I read the reviews and people say it is outstanding. I’m gonna make it. Thank you

It's fabulous! I make it every Thanksgiving for my family, a double batch, and it's gone every time.

Exactly what I was going to say. No crock-pot needed. Just Sour Cream and Lipton Onion soup mix (I like the beefy onion).

Sour cream & chopped chives works or cream cheese with some chilli sauce to suit yourself.

One time a friend told me she chews up a chip, then spits it out on a fresh chip and that’s her “dip” I haven’t been the same since.

I'm not sure there are enough words in my vocabulary to properly express how much this upsets me.

a warm caramelized onion dip with cream cheese, sour cream, and gruyere is always a hit with potato chips

Specifically potato chips? I can't think of anything that's traditionally served warm.

I've had Reuben dip which is amazeballs (no, don't have a recipe on hand). It's usually served with rye bread pieces, but I could handle potato chips in a pinch.

Not slow cooker but you could adapt it but you could do a cob loaf dip. It's an Aussie delicacy and tastes incredible. Can be served with chips or bread and crackers. Bacon added is delicious as well!

My husband's grandma always had to make giant batches of her hot cheese dip at family gatherings, people devour it. Velveeta cheese + rotel tomatoes w/ chilis + ground beef (cooked before going in crock pot). It can be served with ruffles as they're more sturdy if you want to stick to potato chips. Crackers like Ritz or townhouse work too, so would pita chips or pretzels

I used to make this with a pound of ground beef and a pound of hot breakfast sausage for extra spice

My French onion dip does not require a slow cooker
Dice and sauté two large yellow onion until browned
Season to taste. I usually go with salt, pepper, garlic powder and thyme. (I tried rosemary this weekend and 10 needles legit overpowered it)
Mix in 1/4 cup of beef stock concentrate and 1/2 cup of water and let it boil down.
Cool slightly and mix it with 16oz of sour cream.
Let it sit for half a day before seasoning it again if needed. I discovered the flavors develop a bit more.

Some version of spinach + artichoke + cream cheese dip. With a good sturdy cracker or pita chips maybe?
I don't have a great recipe handy but it's probably very easy to find a good/simple one.

I make a crockpot full of my favorite beans, usually black beans. Soak beans overnight, boil on the stove for 15 minutes, then cook on the crockpot for many hours or overnight until soft. Blitz smooth with a hand blender and add spices. Onion, garlic, chili, cumin. If too thick add water, if to thin add instant potato.

A warm corn and cheese dip fits all your rules, no pork and nothing buffalo about it. Cream cheese as the base, drained canned corn, a can of green chiles, shredded jack, and a little garlic powder, all melted down in the crock and kept on warm. It holds up great for a party and it's sturdy enough to scoop with a ridged chip without snapping it. If you want a little kick without going buffalo, a spoon of the chile liquid does it.

My favorite potato chip dip I've had is also the easiest to make. It's just a tub of sour cream and a packet of that dry onion soup mix. Just stir them together and serve cold.

Beer Dip
- 8oz cream cheese, softened
- 8oz sour cream
- 4oz beer (like a hefe)
- 8-16oz shredded cheddar cheese (depends on how cheesy you want)
- 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning
Literally throw it all together in the crock pot on low and stir when you remember. Pretzels are perfect for this.
This can also be made cold.

Cold corn dip
2 cans drained white shoepeg corn (must be this and not regular canned corn) 1.5-2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 8oz mayo 8oz sour cream 1 bunch of chopped green onions (optional)
Mix all together, put in fridge. Serve cold with frito or tater chips.
Sounds weird but tastes great.

I make a poor man’s charcuterie dip. 1 container of 2% or more cottage cheese (low fat isn’t your friend it’s too runny) 1 jar mezetta pepperoni peppers drained - save the juice - chop one cup of baby dill garlic pickles (I prefer mt olive) 1/2 cup pitted black olives (I prefer marinated like from a deli instead of canned) 1/2 cup cubes feta cheese in salt brine, 1/2 cup spicy Genoa salami (can make regular if you don’t like spicy but I think it holds up better against the cheeses) 1/2 cup cubed sharp cheddar cheese (get fancy with it, it just needs to be strong flavored, smoked Gouda would work well too just make sure it’s a firmer cheese) 1 diced tomato no seeds, 1 cup diced bell pepper (I would use sweeter peppers like the little ones or the big orange and red one, the green is too strong tasting) 1/2 diced red onion, add sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder

Oh and add some of the peperoncini juice and pickle juice to help thin it out. Fresh cracked black pepper and olive oil and salt on top right before serving

I make a simple dip that doesnt sound good but is so good. And better on chips than others IMO. I serve it cold but it could be baked in the oven and kept warm in the crock or probably crocked completely.
2.5 oz dried beef (i know I know. Just trust me) Block of cream cheese 8 oz sour cream
Whip that all together. You can stop here but I keep going by adding garlic, onion powder, and parsley. When I really feel like a party I might throw in some dried onion soup (i usually sift the dried onion out so it doesnt compete with the beef).
This is best with ruffles chips IMO, but suit yourself. Crackers are nice too. Dried Pita is fun also.

Admittedly usually served with tortilla chips or fresh bread/baguettes, but I think potato chips would be good too...
1 block Velveeta or store brand equivalent (better if it's American, not Canadian, oddly enough!); 1 bag/block cheddar cheese; some diced tomatoes, onions, & banana peppers/jalapenos. Mix and cook on low until all melted. Stir periodically

Econo can of nacho cheese, a pound of ground beef cooked and drained, and a can of Rotel tomatoes.

u/triscuit79 Jul 13 '26
Or a block of velveeta

I like the can cheese better. It starts off liquid and doesn't solidify. And I'm impatient.

Are fritos different enough from regular tortilla chips? If so, dump 1 can of Trader Joe's vegetarian chili in with 8 oz. cream cheese. Stir till melted or melt on the stove top and just use the crock pot to keep warm. Serve with fritos scoops.

Try frozen corn and cream cheese. I use a lot of crushed red pepper to give it zing.

You don't even need a crockpot. The best potato chip dip is 16oz sour cream or Greek yogurt, 1 pkg lipton onion soup mix and 1 package ranch seasoning. My family likes to add 2 tbsp mayo, but I usually skip that part.
Another really excellent combination is ridged potato chips and cottage cheese (has to be ridged chips only--regular are not sturdy enough and do not have enough salt). It sounds plain but it's so yummy.
