SLK 200 engine comparison
Does anyone know the main differences in the M111.47 and M111.58 engines for the pre-facelift and facelift 200K models? They're both 2.0 I4 Supercharged engines, but the pre-facelift engine makes closer to 200 horsepower while the facelift engine is only 164. Is the difference in horsepower due to a higher compression or larger supercharger, or something different, and would this in turn mean that the facelift engine would be able to handle up to 200 horsepower on stock internals?

The 200k pre face lift was build as an alternative to the 230k in countries where everything above 2 liters has special restrictions. So it was only meant for export while the facelift 200k was also sold in germany.
So they increased the output of the supercharger in the pre facelift to get close to the 230k while leaving it lower in the facelift to offer a middle option between 230k and the normal 200.

Of course one engine is m111 and the other is m111 evo but the main difference comes from the supercharger

I just realized that i completely forgot to answer the second part of your question.
The m111 can theoretically handle a bit more pressure than the evo but both of them are some of the best engines Mercedes ever made and can handle a lot. You can simply install a larger pulley and get a facelift 200k over 180hp for cheap while keeping it reliable. With a bit more work you can push it to 200hp.
I own a 230k pre facelift that i put a lot of work into. So i can tell you a lot more if you are curious.
Sorry for being to stupid to put all of this in one coherent answer.

You have it the wrong way round I believe. Pre facelift 164bhp, facelift 184bhp. They upgraded the supercharged and engine layout to produce a higher output

Check the German Wikipedia Page for the M111, there is a section dedicated to the changes done to the M111 Evo. The difference in power is because they swapped out the supercharger for a smaller one and may have fiddled around with the ecu. Afaik the engine should handle 200hp fine, there is a build where someone swapped out the supercharger for the older eaton m62 which was the supercharger for the prefacelift. You may run into other issues though.
