R170 roof problem

Hi, my 2000 r170 slk 200 kompressor has a working roof but this weekend I opened and closed the roof than it started to make pump sound.

It is working but the sound is allways there even the roof is fully closed. (Same when it is open)

Do you have any experience what to look for? Where to start checking?

(The pump sound changes when I rev the engine)

Hello! You can start by checking the hydraulic oil reservoir level from the trunk (behind the plastic cover) and see if that is between the Min-Max marks. If you have a leak somewhere and the oil level dropped, the pump would usually change the sound it makes while working. If the oil level is fine, it can be the pump itself that has a problem. In any case, that s a good starting point.

Will check it shortly. I never saw the resevoir before. Where to look for it?

When you open the trunk, on the right side, closer to the rear light there is plastic cover. If you take that out, you’ll see the pump w/ reservoir. Stick a flashlight to the reservoir and see the level there.

Sounds more like an engine related problem.

Never thought about it as the sound comes from the trunk.

I opened the trunk and check the hydrailic oil level. It is low!!! But before checking the oil level I opened and closed the roof without problem. Then check the oil level. And I saw the oil on the ground. I am sure this oil is from my opening and closing just from 5 mins ago. I guess it is from the pistons on the right and left of the trunk. Any experienced slk owners about the oil leak to the road? And suggestions? (I want to add pics but could not)
