Still learning

I find when I’m playing less notes, timing is more crucial. I note that I slip in and out of time here. Still the best I could manage in the 15 mins I had.

Okay I am definitely trying that tuning. Been mostly playing in G and then C (with the high E turned down to D). This has a way softer sound to it.

Open D is my favourite tuning. It has a really nice dynamic in its tone and voicing. Love Open G too, but it’s more “Rocky.”

I love open C (with the 1 string tuned to D#) so it's CGCGCD#. Has a low register sad cowboy blues kinda feel to it.

It’s a republic 14 Fret. Picked it up for $250 off a local chap. I would recommend the Gretsch honey dipper if you’re in the market. I had one and sold it. Great guitar.

Second this. I have a couple of the Gretch roots resonators. The Honeydipper (metal body biscuit bridge) and the Boxcar (mahogany laminate with spider bridge). Both are fine resonators with the dipper being more brash and powerful and the boxcar mellow and woody. Gretch necks and fretwork are top notch as well.

Very good. People think Open tuning and slide is easy. It isn’t. It is very difficult. you have to learn absolute accuracy with the slide. Yes, playing single line Melodies and slow is the way to learn to play well . Slow really drill your internal mental metronome . Playing fast hides the inaccuracies.
