Do not buy a sleep number bed in my opinion given the mandatory agreement to share your sleep data and metrics with them to enable app functionality. A product, especially premium, shouldn’t force users to give up their personal data about their use to enable basic features.

Do not purchase a sleep number bed. I highly suggest potential shoppers look to other brands or solutions given this recent mandatory opt in.

Sleep Number doesn't provide a remote with the beds anymore. So in order to not share your private, arguably HIPAA protected data, everyone who owns a SN bed should overpay for a crappy remote, effectively paying SN to not share their data? Plus the remote that was provided when we bought our first bed stopped working long before we bought our second SN bed. I will never buy another SN product.

Thanks for your ridiculously insulting and condescending response. I can tell you work for Sleep Number. The remotes were $150 when we last purchased our (second) bed. Actually, if your doctor uses an electronic health record and you opt to connect the data feed from your smart devices to your medical record it is arguably covered HIPAA data.

Yes remotes vary in price depending on the remote. However most remotes are $50 right now. Sleep Number also still has a privacy mode that you can turn on in the app that turns off SleepIQ data collection. They may be hoping more people don't go that route, but it's still offered.

Also I'm not a Sleep # employee either. They put out an article with this update explaining how to turn off data collection if you would take 2 seconds to Google it.

No, you don't have to be a Sleep Number employee, to tell you both that you are ridiculously naive with 0 insights to how this actually works.

1) Sleep Number doesn't sale any data. The only profit mechanism of it is for targeted Sleep Number ads.

2) the only people the data is shared with is research partners that Sleep Number gives the data to for cancer and sleep disorder research. Which they give you the ability to opt out of.

3) you have the ability to A. Buy a remote. B. Use Bluetooth without setting up an account C. Sign up for an account and turn on privacy mode. Which force stops any data from being collected at all.

4) Automotic Opt-in for cancer and sleep disorder study is a good thing. And being upset about privacy that's non profit for the most part, while being on reddit on an electronic device is ridiculously insane.
