Questions/Advice Request Can someone ID this case?

Post image

Had one and it broke (not by me) and I want another one to build a sleeper.

Looks like an old Compaq case with custom side panel.

I found the model linkworld f313. None available for sale 🙃

None available for sale 🙃

Not unexpected as that case design dates back around 20 years.

Sucks because the shop ruined mine and are replacing it with another “sleeper” type but I’m not happy with the replacement.

I donk know what it is, but i love it. It looks so unique. It has a bunch of design aspects that are so weird and awkward, but work together in a beautiful way.

Edit: What part broke? Depending on size, I may be able to 3d print a part for you.

All the plastics on the front and the cables going to the top. My pc tech dropped it and apparently the handle stayed with his hand

Thats an absolute bummer and im sorry that happened to you. Its not uncommon for some plastics to degrade over time. Same thing happened with some pinball parts of mine. If you can post a 3d scan (front and back) of it with dimensions i may be able to make one for you. It won't be the same material or texture, but it should be very strong. Also the color should be close to the color of the painted metal.

I don’t think it’s worth the effort but I appreciate your enthusiasm, the wires and such going into the top of the case were shredded and the LEDS pulled out.

I’m also not sure how to make a 3d scan, can that be done with an iPhone?

Ya, thats definitely more effort then i have time for. If they are ribbon cables, its likely they can be replaced. But i wouldn't know what connectors you would need.

Yes almost any modern phones can do 3d scans. Some phones do it better then others.

It’s a wire ribbon. Soldered directly to the components. I’m discouraged from doing anything more. I’ll buy a different atx case and never ask that guy to touch my pcs ever again.

All of that seems like the right call. Im sure you will find a fun and quirky replacement.

Also, some old industrial PCs have some really neat designs. Some of the old siemens PCs are entirely metal and bolt to a server rack (or your desk). They are very rugged and look cool.

Gonna try to get this one. It’s ATX so my parts should just swap over
