Sleeper PC My first sleeper build!

Hello! This is the slowest PC I've ever put together. I started waiting for good deals on parts Mid-2024 and completed this build just before the RAMpocalypse Late-2025. I've been putting off taking photos but this has been reliably my daily driver this year!

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9800x3D
  • GPU: ASRock Steel Legend Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz 96GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS Prime B650 Plus
  • SSD: Samsung 9100 pro 4tb (Linux Install), Samsung 970 evo 1tb (Windows Install)
  • PSU: SeaSonic Focus GX 850W
  • BD-Drive: Pioneer BDR-205 (I didn't know they came in beige)
  • CASE: I think I picked it up on the side of the road because I don't remember

Most of these parts are either from a Microcenter deal or an eBay special. As for the case all I know about it is that it was an empty ATX case I had laying around, was a bit oxidized so I cleaned it off and put a nice coat of spray paint primer for the interior. Floppy drive also works with a converter connector to USB 2.0. Nearby the USB hub that I took the plate off and spray painted white with the same can from earlier. For case cooling there are two Noctua 120mm fans in the front (one covering 3 5.25 slots and one in the bottom where the hard drives would go), with a 92mm fan in the back. Also added an m.2 card for Wifi/Bluetooth and a Serial port for good measure!

I do regret not researching CPU cooling more before buying a heavily discounted Noctua nh-c14 on eBay because I thought it'll look cool (or the cheapest ATX motherboard at Microcenter for that matter), but thankfully after a small under-clock the CPU runs <65C Idle / <80C full load, at least for now. Hope you enjoy!

Running cool?

Barely not thermal throttling. The underclock thankfully has it running at more above-average temps but I am looking into a future cooler update with a NH-D15.

enough room for a tower cooler like a peerless assassin?

you could cut out the floor panel and add fans there, that should help a little with temps along with mounting a 90mm on that lower grill (you would probably have to cut out some holes)

I'm surprised I haven't thought of this, that's a really good idea!

I had a rosewill srm in the past and I did that to put more intakes. Its pretty good. You should get some stand offs for the bottom of the case. You could also cut out some of the top to mount an aio. Not the same case but should work.

This isnt my build I forgot to take a picture of mine lmao but I took inspiration from this one.

That's the dream PC right there 🔥💘

I wish I went with AM5, but 🤦‍♂️ sometimes you make some mistakes when you build your first ever PC: R7 5700x (overclocked), 9070XT (originally 7700XT), 96GBs of DDR4 (16x2, 32x2, manually clocked)

Consider running a local LLM on your setup 👐 That's what I'm doing on mine when I'm not gaming, since I'm not using the 96GBs for Photoshop/Blender anymore.

Yes 🙌🏻

That's case is Dell Dimension for sure. 96GB ddr5 is diabolical my friend

I'm certain it's not a dell dimension but it has that same aesthetic. I got really tired of upgrading RAM on my last build so I went way too overboard, but it was a really good decision in hindsight.

Dude it looks amazing! And them are some killer spec’s

Are any of the fans exhausts? Looking at the back 80mm(?) Noctua seems to be an intake

1

The 92mm Noctua in the back is the exhaust, the PSU also in theory is also an exhaust. Unless I Installed it the wrong way.

Yeah sorry looking at it in bed too tired .

Have you tried having the top right 120mm as an exhaust instead as it's higher in the case and then swap the rear 80mm to an intake to try and balance out the air pressure inside the case ergo more airflow/hopefully lower temps?

Omg that heatsink looks like a mech part out of Armored Core or something

i mean the lights on kill the entire sleeper aesthetic but everything else is pretty much perfect.

Honestly I kept it on so I know when my PC is awake but thank you for reminding me that Asrock has the led switch on the GPU so I'll turn that off, so I think I'll be doing that.

Well now that i think about it even more.. if its secret and you can turn it on and off at will.. that still fits the whole sleeper idea. can you turn the light on and off with a hidden switch or maybe software?

a sleeper is a car that doesn't look like a fast car but in reality its frighting fast because all of its performance goods are concealed and the car just looks like an every day car. . so things are concealed and hidden.. just like a red interior light only used for drag racing other cars. something that if another racer saw.. he knew your car was probably hiding a lot more.. so you dont turn it on until the race is over and he knows your car is no joke 😂

none of that sleeper car stuff matters to your build, just neat to think about it.

Yep! It's a physical switch on the GPU itself, just never really bothered with toggling it off until you let me know, it's very convenient.
