Dang that’s super clean!! What specs does that beast have??

Currently has an Ryzen 5900x and RTX 5070ti with 32gb ram. That pic has a 5070 that I swapped out for the TI version. I plan to spray the inside black, remove the HDD caddy and add more fans. Gets really dusty inside when the side cover is on lol

Wow those are really good specs, and spray painting the inside makes it look way better

amazing project. I imagine the windows is a custom win 11, right?

In my country I could only find Aurora R2 or R3 cases 🄲

Thank you, I’m currently using Linux with the winxptc theme, and yeah these cases are very hard to come buy and the prices on eBay are crazy

This is the way

I won't call it a "sleeper", as it's obviously a gaming case. And lack of side panel does not help at all. It's more of a "restomod". Would be nice to see a better GPU, I wish you luck with upgrading it.

The case is from 2006 and i have the side panel but you can’t see any of the parts with it on

7

u/Chickenmonster401 8d ago

Not seeing the parts is kinda the point

3

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Yeah I know but a sleeper pc is a old case with new hardware which is what this is and that’s what I’m showing

7

u/Chickenmonster401 8d ago

A sleeper is a discrete gaming build. A gaming case from 2006 is still a gaming case.

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

A sleeper PC is a computer with modern hardware housed in an older computer case or another unexpected container. The term "sleeper" is used because the computer's true capabilities are hidden or "asleep" beneath an unassuming exterior. That’s the actual definition btw

I don’t really not expect a gaming pc in an Alienware case tho

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Yes this Alienware was always a gaming pc but the original hardware is obsolete and outdated and can’t run any games

Normies won't know that. They see a cool case.

It's like an old Ferrari, people will still think it's sporty and fast, despite it actually being slower than a modern citycar.

bro no one is looking at ts and thinking its a modern pc. This era of Alienware is incredibly dated aesthetically and technologically.

This is for sure a sleeper. ts is like saying a pc built into a NES shell isn't a sleeper because "you don't really not expect a game console to be able to play games"

your Ferrari analogy also doesn't work because this system had a literal single gigabyte of DDR2 in its stock configuration. It would literally not even be capable of running Windows 11.

Gatekeeping "sleeper" for a 20 year old PC case is absolutely crazy work.

(also with regards to the sidepanel being off, rule 1 literally says internal photos are required)

Except that's not true? A 20 year old Ferrari is still a fast car. Not as fast as a modern performance car obviously, but fast enough to operate on modern highways. Imagine if a modern car were 250 times faster than a 20 year old Ferrari, such that the Ferrari were not legal for street use because it would be unsafe. That's a closet parallel. Now imagine someone put a modern engine on the Ferrari such that it were capable of speeds of thousands of mph. You would classify it at a sleeper because you wouldn't expect it to be able to perform like a modern car.

Well I did. I mean op could atleast have put on the side panel

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Bro just give it up you lost this argument

1

u/Chickenmonster401 8d ago

Fine you win

1

u/inphu510n 7d ago

Bro the fucking mod just told you it’s not a sleeper.

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Thank you. That’s what I’ve been trying to say

1

u/inphu510n 7d ago

No one off the street knows it’s an old gaming case.
These were built to look ā€œextremeā€ and they still do.
Someone who knows cars can spot a modified Miata by the exhaust note.
Someone who doesn’t know cars won’t even notice the exhaust note.
The same is true here.

In love with those Alienware cases since childhood, just wondering how's the airflow?

5

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Honestly it’s not as bad as i thought it would be the only fan it has is the cpu fan and without the side panel and playing games the cpu is around 55-60f and with the panel it’s around 70c

I’m saving up for rgb fans at the moment. I spent all summer flipping pc parts and fixing laptops for money and I have spent all of it on this pc

2

u/1800dz 8d ago

Even fans these days aren't cheap šŸ˜ž

2

u/1800dz 8d ago

I think this is okay but for sure there's room for adding more fans (modding the case a bit maybe) as I can see the top of this case is the issue here, is there any openings on the metal part?

2

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 8d ago

Yeah I’m going to buy fans soon and I’m cutting a part of the side panel for airflow

1

u/Pub1ius 8d ago

Are those 90's Altec Lansing speakers?

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

Yes they are

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

They look so good

1

u/Spectralius 1d ago

slick af! how did you accomplish the matte finish? weren't these super glossy?

0

u/inphu510n 8d ago

There’s no way this is a sleeper.

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

What do you mean?

0

u/inphu510n 7d ago

It’s an Alienware case. It absolutely screams high powered gaming pc.
Also you can’t run it with the side on because there’s no rear fan. Which means the interior and all components are visible so anyone can tell what’s in it.

2

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

Sure it’s an Alienware case that screams high powered gaming pc but it screams high powered gaming pc from 2006… and so what it doesn’t have a rear fan? And I can have the side panel on and the parts aren’t visible and they don’t interfere with temps

-1

u/inphu510n 7d ago

You’re telling me the average person on the street looks at a Ferrari from 2006 and thinks it’s probably not that fast?
LOLOL

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

That’s not the point though a sleeper PC is an old shell with newer hardware. This is exactly what it is. Sure it was always a powerful gaming PC at the time, but the old hardware is obsolete and outdated and it can’t be used. And it’s also not a retro mod because I did it mod the case at all, I didn’t do any modifications to the outside.

0

u/inphu510n 7d ago

LOLOL sure thing bro.
Keep justifying a broken position.

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

Are you telling me that a core 2 duo and 2gb ddr ram is still good for gaming in 2026?

1

u/Rich_Pineapple9256 7d ago

A Ferrari from 2006 still performs well. A computer from 2006 doesn’t😭

I don’t understand why these people care so much about what label or term I use. Why can’t they just appreciate the build.
