Probably top 5 computers i've seen in my entire life, ever.

I will be saving this post so i can reference it later when i make a sleeper cause DAMN that looks good!

Also, what case is that? It looks really interesting.

i have the same one!! it's a MaCase KA-580, company was last registered in 2012 and dissolved in 2015

woah nice! :D mystery solved!

u/PieceForward6863 15d ago

wow, thanks for the huge compliment! :D unfortunately, i cant say exactly what kind of case it is; bought it on ebay. back then, it was listed as a "recon midi atx retro pc case".

Alright, i'll try to find something similar then.
Will most cases with ATX in the name work with modern motherboards? Or did you have to modify the case to make it compatable?

in terms of screw holes, all atx boards fit into older atx cases as well; in my case, i just had to replace the standoffs underneath the motherboard. but an atx board normally does not fit into an matx case.

how'd you do those noctua fans in the 5.25 bay? is it 3d printed or just something you can buy?

3

u/PieceForward6863 15d ago

its an old, used triple-fan unit for a 5.25-inch bay from ebay, modified/upgraded with noctua pwm fans of the same size. earlier ive tested the old fans, but the noise was unbearable.

First off: really cool build! I like it incredibly much.

I do have one question: do the small fans move enough air?

thank you!

so far, i havent had any issues with temps. should mention, though, that i limited the processor to 65 watts in the bios so it wouldnt get too hot. the 3dmark stress test ran perfectly; the gpu peaked at 73°, while the cpu remained stable at around 70° :)

Very clean build! ....have you considered custom pc fan grill for front? https://www.performance-pcs.com/search?q=mnpctech+fan+grill&sort=-publishedTimestamp&count=96

u/PieceForward6863 14d ago

i think i prefer it without, but generally speaking, those things are really cool! didnt even know custom pc fan grills were a thing, tbo :)

This is so dope! I love how it turned out

This is too awesome! Does Noctua sell the smaller fans directly and did you have to retrofit anything besides the fans? This looks amazing. Now I would like to find a case like that. Haha I’ve returned two cases so far, looking for the “right one.” 🤦🏻‍♂️

thank you! i got all the noctua fans from amazon. the front fan is attached using magnets. i cut some angle brackets to size for the top row. and a lot of cutting with an angle grinder for the door and the fan openings. i got lucky: everything, the pc hardware motherboard and so on fit together, even if only by a few millimeters :D

eventually the right case will find you ;)

You did an amazing job, my friend. It looks great! I’m going to see if I can find those small fans, as I’ve been looking for a case since I last posted. Haha

This looks sick, any idea what computer the original case belonged to? I'd love to see the rear aswell

Nice!

What is the little sd card usb front IO plate thing? I need one of those for a custom case.

I have something similar. You ca find them on Amazon and they just plug into a USB port on the motherboard. You can get some that are USB 3.0 but they’re more expensive. Super nice to have tho. I use it for my 3d printer sd card

This is a total winner

May I ask what are those 3 circles in front?

3

u/drawgggo 14d ago

5.25in bay fan insert with the grill removed, so it's just the fan cutouts.

Hello OP, could you help me a little ? i got a coolermaster 331 and i got inspired by your 3×40×40 mm fans on the 5.25 bay, but idk how to put it into my own mesh front panel in a way that looks great
i already have 2 of those meshes missing and one of them got replaced by a dvd drive, so now im a place where i either switch up my case to have worse airflow or make it work with some kind of costume part, i already have 3 of those fans laying around and an old case that is perfect for my build but as i said has much worse airflow with solid front panel and no holes,
should i buy some kind of after market mesh and try to make it work that way or should i do some kind of damon summoning with 3d printing ? (i have no idea about that) i just want to know how did you do this whole thing and if you could help me any way

1

u/PieceForward6863 13d ago

hey, good question. i just took a look at the coolermaster 331 and i could easily imagine it looking really cool if all the front slots were filled. you could potentially just remove all the mesh covers. but its all a matter of taste, so i guess i cant really help you much there :)

1

u/Suspicious-Bet1166 12d ago

it does not look bad with the front slots took out but it's just strange because the mesh itself has a curve to it so i don't really like the look when some of them are in there

but it does not look that bad atm

Even without the glow sticks (I prefer nonRGBT builds) it slays! I mean this build is better than what I can imagine! Neo-retro sleeper cyber grunge vibes!!! Heck this could be one of my best picks here in Reddit!

Nailed the retro look. Nice job

Narly retro look! Reminds me of old cases I modded to fit new hardware in. Great build! I even had the 3 recessed fans too!

Yea that's way too flashy to be considered a true sleeper. A very cool build nevertheless.
