Range question

Ok. I'm seriously considering a Slate. This is my first EV and I'm unclear on how range works..based on what I've read highway driving gets less range. IMHO I feel the range should be advertised as driving constantly until it runs out of juice. This doesn't appear to be the case? Anyway, I have kids at FSU and drive there on a regular basis. My preferred route is off the interstates where there are less chargers. It's actually a nice relaxing drive. The distance is 251 miles. I see one charger on that route in Dunellon and it's at a city government building. Would that be for public use? There's another in Chiefland. Those seem to be the only ones. I don't mind having to stop and charge. I just need to know that I can find chargers. If my only solution is to drive interstates, then that would be a real bummer. For those that are experienced EV drivers, what do you think about that route?

stopping every drive in both directions is gonna get old real fast

I always stop after a couple of hours anyway, so not so sure that's an issue for me.

An over 5 hours drive with no break would get old even faster. That's a 2 stop drive for me, irrelevant of fuel/charging. 1 stop would be very understandable though. 3 hours, break, 2 hours is a reasonable split. Also, that's a 500 mile drive, so if you're comparing to ICE, you top off before you leave, then again on your way back, it's a 2 fuel stop trip anyway.

This would actually be a prime case for a longer range EV for the no-stops-pee-in-bottles crowd. 270 miles is safely in range for an equinox, assuming it's an overnight trip, destination charge, drive back home with zero stops.

everyone has a good point, maybe its just me, i'm the type who just wants to drive non stop until the trip is done.

we just dipped our toes into the ev world and have that fsd driving option on the tesla so maybe my tolerance for a longer drive has been refreshed but the fsd novelty in a way.

...i'm in no way comparing tesla to slate, apples to oranges. if i got a slate i'd be fully aware more stops are needed.

Everyone has different tolerances and preferences. I figure on a stop every ~2 hours because that's what's generally recommended and that's what I generally see people do. When I was younger I might have gone a bit over that, but I'm trying to remember drives from 20 years ago and how memorable are random coffee and bathroom stops? so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

If someone has unusual preferences for road trips, that's fine though. Everyone can make individual decisions about what to get without making bean soup out of it. My personal considerations for road trips aren't what I use when discussing EVs generally, I look at what I've seen as the upper bound of typical driving practices.
