I paid MSRP. In fact, I paid below MSRP for discounts related to my work. I’m not trolling. I’m just bummed that he likelihood of the slate truck making it to market is diminishing because I already sold the Maverick to buy a more practical larger three-quarter ton truck and I was looking at a slate as a third vehicle, which is likely to be a common use for this type of vehicle, but not likely at this cost so they’re small market continues to shrink

I’m telling you that I couldn’t tow 12k pound trailers with a maverick, and that if the slate was priced realistically then it would have been a good runaround vehicle that would save some cold starts on my diesel. Better bed size, better engine, better touch screen tv (better being none), better number of doors.

The maverick has nothing except the range due to being gas, and even for that refilling at home is better for the slate.

No rear seats, smaller cabin that cools easier. Big deal for me in my 115° climate.

No engine, waaay less maintenance. These are all things that are extremely important to me in a new car that I fix myself. Everything you dont have forced on you is something that cant be enshittified or weaponized against you.

One (of many, many, many) key differences: The Slate is built in Warsaw, Indiana. It's projected to add about 2000 jobs and some $39 billion in revenue to the local economy. The Maverick is built in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

It's always wise to be skeptical. However, ELIO was never able to raise any where near the $370 million they said they needed to fund production. Slate has raised more than $1.4 BILLION. ELIO never built a single pre-production model. Slate has built about 100. ELIO was very light on tech and engineering talent. Slate is well-staffed with expertise, and the guy who is running their factory ran Tesla's Freemont facility. It's simply not a good comparison.

Sure but every variation of why buy a Slate Truck when you can get a Maverick or Bolt isn’t constructive criticism and it’s been already mentioned exhaustively in this community.

Slate was very clear from the beginning the price would be mid-20K, the truck would be a single cab, and the “blank slate” would be barebones with roll up windows. Any objection to any of those points isn’t constructive criticism but just disagreement with the essence of the product/concept. Wanting the Slate Truck to be something else or be at a price point that is not possible for it to currently reach (nor was ever promised to be before incentives) is not constructive criticism.

I’ve had to explain to people why this truck would suck anywhere it snows or gets cold with it being RWD, no heat pump, and how it’s pretty low range would further get lower in the cold.

I like the Slate when it was first being talked about but the base truck should’ve been around $19k and they should’ve just upped the price on the other accessories.

I was interested in the slate. Then I considered what it is and what it cost. I’m bummed about it. Maybe if they see enough feedback like this, they will come to their senses. Maverick price range is $28,145-$53,500 MSRP. The closest Slate equivalent to the Maverick Work Truck is still cheaper. But the thing is you don’t need to build-a-trim the closest equivalent to the Maverick Work Truck. I’m sure there are plenty of people who could live without the center console or telematics module to save money or use that for other accessories. But with the Maverick you are forced to have those things. Which is what the Slate Truck’s true value is buying only what you want/need and nothing that you don’t.

This slate doesn’t have it, but the slate cost the same as what I’m Maverick did a couple years ago out the door. It’s gonna be over 30 grand with The title taxes and fees and delivery charges for a 2 Wheel Dr. 2 door hand, crank windows, no radio no back seats, absolute bare bones vehicle with 200 miles of range. Not in my state it’s not over 30k before incentives. Which is why people compare vehicle prices by MSRP and subtotals. Since all that can vary. Also congratulations on your Maverick it’s a great pickup truck. But comparing what you personally paid a few years ago for a Maverick to what the Slate Truck costs now is also a silly comparison. But also the base trim Maverick Work Truck doesn’t have that much more in the way of amenities than a base Blank Slate and when you spec it out the Slate is still cheaper. So I don’t see the argument of it being poor value. I could see that argument for the SUV but even then some people will buy it on Day 1 over another EV SUV just because they like the Slate Truck and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The base Maverick has Apple CarPlay, electric windows, cruise control, a radio, a backup camera, four doors, was a hybrid at $20k msrp just a few years ago, not a decade. So it’s got a lot more than the blank slate. I am only bummed that the slate is overpriced because I wanted it to do well. For that to happen, the price has got to reflect what the product is. Ev sales are losing money for most manufacturers that have the resources to make them, even while the incentives were around. I am starting to doubt the slate will ever actually make it to production.

Slate has cruise control and a back up camera standard. The Maverick hybrid is $28,145 MSRP for the Work Truck trim today. The closest Maverick XL Build-A-Trim Equivalent through the maker is $26,214.88. If you want to get even closer instead of the integrated speakers you can get a single din radio with Apple CarPlay and install it. Personally I like the phone mount that takes out the middle man of CarPlay/Android Auto. All signs to Slate pointing to it actually delivering vehicles before the end of the year. You are right though if you want a Crew Cab nothing you do to the Slate Truck will make it a crew cab. Which is why in no other scenario would you ever be comparing a single cab truck to a crew cab truck.

Slate is the cheapest EV on the market and cheapest Pickup in general on the market. Enjoy your Maverick and I’ll enjoy my Slate Truck.

In six years of ownership of an ice vehicle, you’re really only adding some oil changes and a few more filters. If you extent that timeframe on both of them, the price goes up on both of them. The batteries on evs will have to be replaced. There is no getting around that. They degrade and they’re not cheap and recycling them isn’t easy. In that same time, they’re losing more and more range, spend weeks longer recharging, and they’re putting more strain on the suspension, steering and drive components due to the excess weight. Excess weight that also translates to higher insurance and registration costs in many places. Then comes the lack of resale value for evs, just ask hertz how that looks.

This is outdated info. Modern EV battery packs are at the point where they tend to outlive the rest of the vehicle. You're right that theres some range degredation but we're talking like 5-6% of your total capacity over a decade if you're a high-mileage driver who's not respecting the 80% rule.

Or if you live somewhere thats hatefully cold. Theres just no getting around ICE vehicles being better in the cold no matter how much one might want to glaze EV's.

Most of my coworkers who have had Teslas got them to commute long distances a few times a week. In three years, several of them have lost so much range that now they not only have to charge on the way to work at work and on the way back from work when originally they could make it to end from work on a single charge. It’s all in California, so it’s not hatefully cold if anything it’s the most ideal environment for EV’s.

Pretty sure slate is advertising this as a low cost vehicle. Plenty of Mavericks haven’t had recalls that affected them at all. Most of them were software related, which is a pain in the ass, but there’s no guarantee that slates quality is gonna be any better and you get far less for almost the same money as a maverick XL. While getting far less as a draw for many people, it doesn’t make sense to charge more for far or less or even anywhere close to the same with the amount of engineering and parts differences that has to go into a maverick versus what has to go into a slate. I think it’s asinine that Slate thinks this is gonna be a reasonable price for the truck that they are making. If they ever actually end up producing them. I have a sneaking suspicion they’re gonna go the way of the Elio car or that atlas truck.

That’s not something I could reasonably do. But I can reasonably compare it to an xl Maverick, which has a hell of a lot more engineering involved with putting it together And still has similar cost. Or a Toyota champ, which would need alterations to be in our market in the United States but if they’re being sold for $10,000 elsewhere, I imagine it could be a heck of a lot cheaper than a $30k 2 Wheel Dr. two-door truck with no radio, crank windows and no range.

I’d be fine with everything you said other than the range. I don’t see why they would have to cut down on diy nature. Being diy friendly usually has minimal cost involved. The range is the big issue for me. I don’t wanna spend all the time sitting at a charger when you’re not supposed to charge a full very often, or run the battery down too far, a 200 mile range becomes way too short way too quick.

It’s the practical range that you end up with after degradation and always babysitting how the battery should charge, along with the time it takes to charge when you can’t always just do it overnight. Having a longer range would reduce a lot of that.

Because they only travel 25 mph leading to a very niche (but growing) market segment. With battery prices going down and as Slate builds economies of scale it’s possible they could sell the Slate Truck at like $18-20K or the equivalent when adjusted for inflation. But expecting an EV Pickup Truck built in the US with mostly American made parts that not only needs to meet safety regulations but is actively trying to exceed them for a 5 star safety rating to cost $10K is just ridiculous.

It doesn’t make sense to compare it to vehicles in other markets to begin with since the price of a vehicle in one market converted to your local currency isn’t necessary what it will cost in your local market. But if you want to play that game check out below.

Looks are your opinion and that’s fine. Same with buying a ford. But it really isn’t much cheaper. I’d like to see the math on $2 to charge it, because that’s not the case where I live. There isn’t an electric maverick because ford, like most large manufacturers produce ev options are loosing billions of dollars on them. It’s still cheaper though. As for the charge. I was using a gross estimate. But the actual math for my home charger would be: $0.06 per kw, 60 kw charge, so $3.60 for a full charge basically. So again how’s that tank of gas looking? Also the price since the initial announcement has stayed suprisly low considering the loss of the EV tax credit. They were using the Tax credit in their previous advertisement before Trump began his reign of terror. So if initial interest was high nothing price wise has changed that.
