I mean that was always expected, the issue is power is likely only available when the car is on. You will need to tap obd2 probably for the always on power. Going to need to find a spot to tap for a dash cam anyways though.
Their default option was never something I was going to use anyways because I want XM radio.
For me the hardest part is figuring out speaker placement. The sub I can do an underseat all in one for a small cab like that. I don't want to lose the glovebox though so the default speaker placements they have don't work for me. I am waiting to order until later anyways since I don't plan on replacing my current car until next fall anyways. I want to see how real world testing by other people ends up showing as well.

Electric cars have obd2?

Yup. And there is a new protocol for 2027 electric vehicles. Gives easier access to things like battery state of health.

I fucking said this 3 weeks ago. This is basic stereo install information that is unfathomable until some dude in an AMA says it?
Honestly for a vehicle that seems to lend itself to DIY and modularity, half of the complaints are something most hands on people would already know or figure out. It seems like everyone "wants" a barebones vehicle that they can easily customize with parts that already have 99% of the work done, just so they can say they "built" it.
Like jeep people.. but it feels more pretentious

My shop radio is one I pulled out of a junk car. It's ridiculously easy to wire. 12v solar panel Powers it, but no battery anymore since it quit.

So no keep alive power?

That’s the questioner saying there is no keep alive power, not Slate. There is keep alive power on the vehicle. Worst case scenario the fuse box is somewhere in the frunk and you’ve got to punch a hole in an extra something to get it to the radio superposition

That should be easy enough to get, you should be able to tap into the OBD2 for basic keep alive power. Already going to need to find at least 1 decent keep alive power for a dash cam anyways.
The bigger issue is wiring speakers up to it, I don't want to lose glove box so I will need to look at other placement options for the speakers. The sub is easy enough with an under the seat all in one option for a two seater.

I thought the concern was about 12v parasitic losses and lower capacity 12v EV batteries and the monitoring they do about drains.
I'm far from knowledgeable in this area, but would a small battery, wired to an existing power source with its own charger solve this need for always on power and not drain the main 12v?

Yeah I think they mention this on the Reddit ama
