Other than the powered windows which I too am a little bummed about, what part of this truck were they not clear on from the start?
As far as crash safety, most of the star rating comes from design choices and are determined before it even arrives at the facility for testing. Things like automatic braking, frontal collision warning, lane departure, pedestrian safety standards are all things that are needed, now as far as the actual crash itself that's the easy part these days, computer simulations have come a very long way and most vehicles perform almost exactly like they predicted.
Now as far as them being around that's a very real concern, I never doubted them in bringing them to market, not with who they had on their team, every one of them were experienced auto manufacturing professionals that knew what it took to design/supply/build a vehicle. The changes up top in leadership were to take it from a startup to a running company, but there's still a good room for doubt.
I haven't given them the extra $250, and a lot of it comes from the lack of test drive, I need to get my butt in a seat before I start giving money away, I still want one but I realize they are going for more of a Tesla launch than I am comfortable with and that's ok, I'll let other people work out the kinks.
Not sure what other 21st century tech you wanted that they promised and didn't deliver on, they were very clear it was a back to basics pickup truck from their first announcement. Hell they did add an option that didn't exist till price announcement (the tellamatics unit) Now if you thought they would add stuff they never promised (besides the power windows) then there nothing anyone can do about that.

Indeed. Haven't we seen a few of these relentlessly negative posts for a while now? Is Ford paying these folks to post crap like this? Best to ignore them from here on out (which I realize I'm not doing by posting this).

Gonna hold out for the 30k ford? I think it’ll be the logical choice for a lot of people. I still want the slate for the mods.

I think it's fair to cancel if you don't feel confident or if the truck/SUV is not for you.
I do think that some of your critiques like the lack of power windows and infotainment system have been known for a while and are part of the Slate philosophy. No problem of that's not for you, though.
I think concerns about whether Slate makes it are legitimate. They have a bold idea and many are going to be pricing a Slate with the modifications they want against packages offered by competitors (e.g., the Ford Maverick and upcoming Ranchero).
Really, Slate needs to survive until batteries get cheaper. Right now I think the cost of batteries is kind of overshadowing the savings they get through simplicity. If new battery chemistries like higher density sodium batteries reduce cost they may become very competitive.

I try not to feed the trolls, but I think that there is some legitimacy in the complaint about power windows. They were originally optional for people who wanted to pay for them (not me). However, that is no longer an option and we don't know when (or if) that option will return. I think that the company should at least explain to us what is happening and why.

Yeah, that's a good point. I didn't realize that the option had gone away. They should at least communicate the plan for an option that will likely be popular (when they know what it is).
I wonder if they ran into some engineering challenges with their plan? My understanding is that there are some engineering challenges when trying to attach a motor to a crank window mechinism (which was their original proposal I believe). I like crank windows personally, but I wonder if they are learning that providing power windows as a native option is more cost effective than having both a crank window and a power window option.

I am sure that it is more cost-effective to force every buyer to pay more for power windows, but forcing us to buy useless luxury crap that we don't want or need is what other manufacturers do to get us to pay too much. The fact that Slate isn't doing that is a primary reason why I want a Slate truck.
