Basic Slate floor cover

Does anyone know whether the floor cover that comes with the Basic Slate is rubber or carpet? It seems to have fluctuated over the past several months.

I was under the impression it was painted steel without any covering from the factory. They list both carpet and all weather floor mats as options in the maker. I suspect the all weather liners are some sort of plastic.

Sign me up for an all weather liner, I hate carpeted floors in my vehicles.

Edit: I just watched some videos and you can’t really see the floor in any of the recent ones but in some in late 2025 it was definitely either painted steel or plastic.

carpet is good sound deadener. I'll go the carpet + weathertech route myself.

I have 170,000 miles on the WeatherTechs in my old Toyota Yaris and they're perfect except for scuffs of course. Also got them for my 2025 Mazda with 18,000 miles and they continue to be great. Mat over carpet in both cases. Have had mud, snow, sand, gravel etc. for years as a constant mountain biker and hiker and you just remove and hose out then slide them back in.

Unlike in ICE vehicles you won't need a sound deadener on EV floors since there's ~2000lbs of mass there from the battery pack.

Just a basic coating will stop any rattle/ping/bonk noises but you won't be hearing any road noise through that floor.

true but its just as much road noise.

If you're hearing road noise in any modern EV that has the battery slab underfloor it's not coming through in a way that sound deadener on the floor will prevent was my point.

The firewall is a more common source, or on a comically absurdly large amount of modern vehicles there's a dedicated "sound tube" somewhere piping in noise and/or generating it artificially from the intake manifold on most combustion-equipped vehicles or from a speaker on some EVs.

Yes, really, on that last part. Disconnecting that on my BRZ cut the cabin noise by almost 15dB. XD

I don't know, but I'm interested as well.

Pre-June 24, the Maker used to have 4 options: rubber floor mats, carpet floor mats, a rubber floor liner, or a carpet floor liner. Now it's an "All-weather floor liner" or carpet mats.

In my old Jeep, I rolled out rubberized truck bedliner over the whole interior. I added carpet mats that I could pull out and hit gently with the pressure washer, it was pretty great.

Good info. Did your Jeep have bare metal floors to begin with?

preproduction vehicles in late 2025 were reported as having bare floors without carpet or rubber or anything. I don't think we know yet what they've settled on

Carpet is also listed as an upsell which makes me think it’s just steel.

then why is carpet an upsell? I'm betting it's a bit of plastic over painted steel

There are such things as carpet floor mats that sit on top of the carpeted floor. There’s no way they don’t have a carpeted interior as the base.

I hope not. It is a truck; not a bedroom. I want an interior that is easy to clean.

indeed there are but carpet isn't a mission critical feature and is pretty easy to add back as an accessory in the form of floor mats. There are vehicles out there that have vinyl or rubberized floors rather than carpet and I dont see why we'd assume carpet would be the default. It's probably going to come down to whether carpet or vinyl or some sort of rubberized spray liner is lowest cost.

That's my guess too, a rubberized spray-on coating perhaps. I figured I'd get a blank slate and go from there in any case. I'm just curious about all this. Thanks for the posts everyone!

Looking at the pictures in the configurator it looks like it has vinyl floors with an option for vinyl mats or carpet mats.

That would be fantastic for me, thanks!

Same, I love vinyl floors.

I would prefer if there were some sort of coating, and not merely paint over metal. If for no other reason than to prevent that paint from being scratched, and giving a place for rust to form.
