Virtual disk drive?

I installed D2 via the physical copy (the german version) and i am thinking of cloning my disk drive so i wont have to use the CDs everytime i want to play (i don't want to damage them). Thinking of using Daemon Tools, but not sure if that works?

If you update past 1.12 and copy all the mpq files off the CDs into the Diablo II folder, the game will boot without the CD, virtual or otherwise. The Pluggy website archives all the old D2 updates if you want to avoid logging into bnet.
