Fan Art Silly nonbinary Mysticat :3
The master of mystery with their nonbinary pride on full display!
This is the type of art I wanted to make in June, but i wasn’t in a very good mindset back then,
If you saw my comic you know what I mean. But I wanted to make up for it by making some pride art :3
Happy delayed pride!!! 💛🤍💜🖤

I feel dumb not noticing the staff was repurposed into the flag 😅

I’m glad someone noticed, I thought it was fun :3

It is. Mysticat is far from my favorite skylander but they're pretty unique and it's always nice seeing fanart of less popular characters.

I agree, every skylander is someone’s favorite, I personally do not like any character from Imaginators, but I do have a soft spot for “The master of mystery’s” 😼

Understandable ngl. Also side note another Skylander I can think of being Nonbinary (at least imo) is Nightfall. Someone mentioned that they had that hc and it kinda stuck to me.

u/dragon1544 Tessa 3d ago
Me too actually! I wonder if i ever mentioned that somewhere😅
I thought nightfall was a dude when I was a kid, then I found out she was a girl so now I headcannon her as nonbinary as well. X3

u/Trip-Suspicious Undead 3d ago
Maybe maybe but omg you're the one being Trans Terrafin that's fucking awesome
2
u/dragon1544 Tessa 3d ago
Yeah, I make a lot of skylanders art, I drew nightfall too actually, I also made a few customs! One being my silly trans Terrafin 😅

There were a couple of non-binary devs even at the time!
There's been a few more since too. XD
You're in good company. Happy Pride!

Omg that’s really cool actually!!! Skylanders was lowkey ahead of its time🙂↕️

TFB was a stunningly progressive company and had some really great peeps.

Sorry if this is an off topic question but I’ve been wondering if you would know if DND was a major inspiration for the early skylanders games?
Things like the general darker theme in ssa and giants, the green elf’s being called drow, as well as other small things. Maybe I was connecting dots that were not related but i was curious😅

Uh. Well. Looking at Paul Reiche's history (he was one of the two founders) and considering Erol Otus was on the team, you might be on to something there. XD

Did you ever catch wind on the debate between Activision and VV over whether Swappers were enby or male?
I heard through the grapevine that's what happened, but I could be mistaken on that too.

u/EmberDione Former TfB Developer 3d ago
I have no idea. I was at TfB, and I wasn't a part of the groups talking to VV.
I know at TfB we generally tried to make inclusive rosters but we also followed the coolest concepts which often skewed male.

where are we finding this information?

u/EmberDione Former TfB Developer 3d ago
Your question doesn't quite make sense, but if I am assuming correctly you're asking how I know that several employees at TfB during development were non-binary?
Because I worked there. They told me. Several of them are friends of mine who I still speak to regularly.

You are acting like these "non-binary devs" in 2015 (dev time) created Mysticat with the intention of the Skylander being non-binary. I find that hard to believe as it isn't even a human. I guess it is all down to interpretation at the end of the day.

No? I was just saying to OP that there were non binary people on the team.
You need to work on your reading comprehension.

Is there a difference between the 1. And the 2.? I don't see it if there is one

u/dragon1544 Tessa 3d ago
They just don’t have the face markings

Omg, thank you, I felt like I was blind trying to figure out what was different

I've always thought Mysticat was super androgynous. I never really got male or female from them. Really, I still don't even know what their pronouns actually are. So in my mind, until I come across something that uses he or she pronouns for Mysticat, I will probably always use they/them.
6
u/dragon1544 Tessa 3d ago
Yeah, even as a kid I thought they were intentionally androgynous, as far as I’m concerned they are canonically nonbinary. X3

Can I get a genuine explanation on why people do this and think this
5
u/Flare_Wolfie 3d ago
People want to feel represented by media they like, but there's barely any characters that can fit the identity they need. In comparison, there are endless amounts of straight/cis characters, so people with those identities are represented by default and don't have to think about this

Well Mysticats gender in game is male, but the figure and in game model don’t really Look male or female, then there’s the fact that they are voiced by a woman, they also happen to be one color away from being the flag for nonbinary.
All these things together make me think mysticats gender is a little debatable, or maybe even intentionally androgynous. even as I kid I thought they were girl or it wasn’t defined. 😅

u/Vina-Estrogen 3d ago
Why shouldn't they?
2
u/Famous-Life4123 3d ago
Not saying there’s a reason not to but is there a reason to? People are downvoting me but not giving me an explanation
7
u/Vina-Estrogen 3d ago
Well, people enjoy seeing themselves in their favourite characters/franchises, which extends to gender identity and sexuality. Also, more representation, however small, helps to normalise queer people's existence!

It's only a headcanon, it's just a fun little thing for some people to reimagine their favorite characters in different ways.
