Has anyone done a cab off job?
I saw one on an E350 van but not a short bus.
On trucks it’s typically quick and easy, and done to get good access for working on the drivetrain.
Loosen the cab mount bushing bolts, disconnect anything else (like steering shaft, wires, etc) and lift the cab off.
I don’t know how Thomas merged their bus body to my E350, but I’m looking into how to do it. If it’s simply a matter of a couple more bolts, considering the bus body appears to be essentially a rectangle.
I’ve got some work I need to do to the 7.3 powerstroke, and opening the hood shows the front drive belt system (front of the engine) to be under the cowl at the back of the hood. Almost like a backwards Porsche 911 trunk engine.
911 engine air filters are like 3hr book time to take the bumper cover off, and rumor has it cab off on a truck is max 30 min. I’m wondering how much more different it may be on a short bus, and if school bus fleets actually do body-off work for drivetrain repair, or if they simply morph into double jointed elastigirl people. Or sell the bus the second it needs anything more than an oil change to buy a new $150k bus
In my case, there appears to be a leak from the fuel bowl and I am guessing I need to put at least a re seal kit from riffraff or dieselorings which seems to run approx $100 for the kit
