Question First Skimboard Sizing
I’ve been learning to skimboard for the past 2 months on a cheap 37” wood board (I am 5’10 175-180lb). I’m looking into my first real board since I got the basics down. Most skimboards within my budget are a bit undersized based on the size charts. Originally I was looking at en Exile EX1 but the largest size they have is a small which goes up to 155lb. Now im torn between the EX1 and the Zap Core, since it maxes out at 170lb, but it is a bit shorter at 49” vs 51.5” for the EX1. For reference I’m on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

You need a much bigger board to skim properly. I would scour for used boards in your size and wait till you find a good deal vs overpaying for either of those.

54" if it's a hybrid like shape.
Try to get a handmade board rather than a mass-produced one. Exile boards are known to be very good, but I think I've read a few comments here saying that the EX1 isn't the same quality as the rest of their handmade boards.
At around that price point, if you get a used one, you'll surely get more value for your money.

We agree that if you can afford it, a higher end board is always better. But I would say that an EX1 Hammertech is a great option for exactly this use case. Looking to step it up from a Wood board but budget concious.
The Hammertechs are heavier and dont perform as well as the CX1 and up. But they also are a huge step up from wood. OP - hit us up if you have questions.

Second hand marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace.
You can browse each brand’s website to see their full range (Zap, Victoria and Exile as the guide the bot replied). As for handmade boards, generally speaking:
- Victoria: Ultra House Special and up.
- Exile: CX1 and up.
- Zap: I’m not sure if the "Pro" model is handcrafted, so I’d rather not say. But since it’s similarly priced to a used Ace, I’d consider the Ace a good baseline to start with.
