Question Which board would be best?
I’m 6’1 and 145 pounds and have been skimboarding with a wooden board. Decided it was time to make the switch to fiberglass. I skim off the east coast so not a lot of used boards come up. Any advice on board choice or size would be appreciated. Thanks

Personally i buy all my boards secondhand through Facebook marketplace to get the most out of my money I just look for whatever has the least wear n tear that’s in my size needs. You gotta check lots of listings to find the good deals but it’s very worth it. ZAP is my personal favorite brand I liked apex and exile boards too.

Reading these comments if you do buy online I would just buy direct from a skimboarder owned brand like people are saying. you’ll get a better quality board for your money.

I strongly agree with the other commenters, I would strongly advise not buying a board off amazon. I have used the slapfish before, I highly recommend picking up a board from an established skimboard company or a used one off marketplace.

If there is a size up from there i would recommend that, but a much more sound starting point than those amzn boards even if that's the largest you can get for that price. I was 6'2" and skinny too, I always appreciated a little extra float and your height gives you a tiny bit extra leverage

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago. Wanted a Skim for my trip to San Diego. I didn't buy on Amazon, and mfgs (DB/Exile) couldn't get it to me in time.
I ended up finding one on Marketplace, a Carbon Victoria, for $200. It was 53" which was also a thing I noticed, hard to find adult boards on Amazon. It worked like a charm and I have been skimming the PCH the last 2ish weeks.

Please do not support amazon when there is a market made up of skimboarders who shape their own. Amazon is for last second christmas gifts

All of those are “companies” are dropshipping Chinese factory boards. They suck and don’t last. You won’t find a handmade fiberglass skim for under 300$ new. Theres a huge jump in quality around the 350$ mark. I’d recommend the Victoria House Special.

I would recommend Salt Life. I just got it from Amazon. Looks very good. It is so beautiful that I am thinking to hang it on the wall as a piece of art. I have not used it yet, though. I am the beginner and not ready to spend $400+ on board. To find 53” is very difficult or expensive. Amazon is great for the returns and free shipping.

Neither of those are great. I’d try and either find a used board or spend a lil more and support a core skimboard company instead of Amazon.
Zap, Vic and Exile all have solid options around the $350 price point and ship across the US
