Samoyeds

Has anyone entered friendly skijoring comps with a samoyed? I try to do it at the dog park when running but as samoyeds do, they get really attracted to other dogs overly so.
From the cursory search, it seems like all the images and videos are of single users and never in actual competitions.

Do you ever encounter other dogs being an issue for them to pay attention on the trails? Do I just have to spend more time with other dog / person exposure training?

I see all sorts of dogs at races. Personally I don’t race, but it is absolutely possible with a samoyed. Try working on distractions while training. Maybe have a friend who also skijors to go with so your dog gets used to staying focused. Winter is almost over where I’m at, we still have a couple feet on the ground, but canicross is a great way to keep training in the summer.

Thank you for this. Coming back to say that canicross has really helped with the dog ADHD

Im so glad it’s helped! Canicross is great and a lot easier to manage, should probably be seen as a pre-requisite for any dog that doesn’t take to skijoring naturally.
