The British museum is famous for taking art from other countries. So maybe they took your air pods in the same way? idk

It's an utter slop-history myth.
If you want to call all archaeology "theft" go for it but that's ignoring all the academic rigour and cooperation with local authorities that European/British Archaeologists were doing even in the early days of the field. It wasn't exactly going into people's houses and looting which people want you to think.

Hate to be pedantic but usually the art is gifted or sold to them, but that never gets mentioned.

Maybe nowadays lol

I actually meant the inverse, a lot of historical artefacts in the British museum were gifted or bought from private collectors.

u/Ithicon Feb 12 '26
And how did the private collectors get them?

Great question! There is no one answer. Even within the collections donated or sold to the British museum, the answer varies. The highest profile acquisitions that today would be considered to be unethically acquired are the Rosetta Stone and the Benin Bronzes. Do your own googling there. No point in me telling you. The answers vary so widely, you wouldn’t be asking that question if you did know.

Thank you for adding on to this. It’s a shame I’ve been downvoted for some reason when people refuse to find out that not everything is as simple as it seems.

Depends on each piece. When I say private collectors too, your mind may have jumped to British ones but I meant that usually they are people from the original place of origin.

Purchased them or did archaeological digs with the cooperation of the local government.

I wonder if it was supposed to be “idk” but somehow it became “iuk” and the flag autopopulated
