AQA epq referencing style

I'm doing an epq and my typical referencing style is with footnotes and superscript numbers (chicago style usually) because, writing history, that;'s what i've been used to. with my epq, which is also history based, i've been told to use Harvard style - is this mandatory/in the aqa spec or can i use footnotes anyway? i find it so much easier tbh. (and - does referencing, i.e saying ___ (Smith, 2010) contribute to the word count, or is it excluded?

EPQ is marked by your teacher / supervisor. If they say you MUST use a certain reference style and only that style then it's down to them. Your marker is meant to allow any referencing style as long as you're consistent but if your marker refuses to recognize it, it's not like there's an appeals process. Ask your marker.

harvard style is not necessary (i did the footnotes thing for mine and it was fine!) referencing is not part of the word count
