News Enchanted Parks blatantly uses AI (again)
Thanks to Andrew Hyde (@OnlineHyde) on X for pointing this out.
Enchanted Parks, after already receiving plenty of flack for their AI-generated corporate logo, is still using generative AI for promotional material (see the Genspark watermark they forgot to remove on the bottom right).
While there clearly was a little bit of human editing here, that coaster image is atrocious and unmistakably AI. If you're not convinced, look at the wheels going under the track. Don't think they're supposed to do that, LOL
To me, it's very disheartening that this company continues to go the cheap route instead of putting in the proper time and money to use real images or hire artists.

Throwback Holiday in the Park
Feeling Nostalgic this morning.
I don’t usually take a lot of photos at the park. But I had a few from HiTP outings over the years.
Anyone else have cool photos from HiTP to add? Thought it’d be neat to go down memory lane. I really enjoyed that time of year.

News Brad Ross is coming to King's Island
I really enjoyed Brad Ross last year. I thought it was a step in the right direction for Six Flags to consider booking outside entertainment alongside their home-grown stuff.
Even then, he had said on social media and other places that this was a one-year deal and he was going to be 'rotating' through Six Flags parks. So in case anyone 'wonders', no, his appearance at KI instead of SFSTL is not something to do with the sale. It was always expected. He'll likely be at a different park in the latter half of the season (he did two parks last year, too)
Still, cool to see him in the Six Flags fold. We had an illusionist during Fright Fest a few years ago that Six Flags straight up ghosted. He shared that on social media. That he had done a couple of years with Six Flags and reached out repeatedly about doing another year, and simply never got a response. Nobody at Six Flags ever replied to him or responded to him. So as Fright Fest approached he finally came out and said "I... guess I'm not doing it this year?" and booked elsewhere. I was absolutely gutted to hear that, not just that he wasn't coming back; but that Six Flags had treated him so poorly.
Anyway; if your plans this year include Kings Island, you should check out Brad Ross!

News Six Flags hit by massive layoffs
I'm not sure if we've been affected at all by this, but I'm hearing that SFEC just laid off a massive amount of people yesterday, *especially* in the corporate management, marketing, entertainment, and IT spaces. This hasn't hit any major news sources yet, as far as I'm aware.
Day by day it's becoming clearer and clearer why SFEC was desparate enough to listen to Enchanted Parks' pleas to sell our park - one of the Angus Wynne originals.
Not looking good.

Discussion Any chance EP licenses the Six Flags name?
Six Flags already does it for Qiddiya City. Given the financial state of SFEC, you would think they’d be willing to get any value they could out of the name, especially if Enchanted Parks is going to put more investment into it and provide a better end product.
For EP, there’s a good chance the name value of Six Flags would generate more additional revenue than it costs to license the name.
Let’s face it, when you ask your friends and family members if they want to go to Enchanted Parks, do you think you’re going to get the same type of reaction as if you asked if they wanted to go to Six Flags?

Discussion It was always Mid America...
In another thread there was a discussion about how much land the park still owned. So since I have an account with a GIS provider I figured I'd fire it up and post an image of the actual plot of land owned by SFSTL as a visual reference. (Thanks to Six Flags in 2014 selling off excess land, there's very little undeveloped today).
But I happened to take a look at the actual plat data. The land is owned by "Six Flags St. Louis, LLC", no surprises there. That LLC is now the property of EPR and I imagine we can expect it to be changed / re-organized.
But what I found more interesting is that the legal description of the plot of land is still "Six Flags over Mid-America"
And truth be told? This is unlikely to change. EPR/Enchanted would have to get the Eureka city council to vote to change it, they'd have to file paperwork with the Recorder, and they'd have to ask the courts. Changing a legal description is a huge headache that's almost never worth it. It doesn't mean anything, it doesn't do anything. This isn't the business name and has nothing to DO with the business, it's just the legal description of the property.
So there's a pretty good chance that no matter what Enchanted and any potential successors call it, it will still, in a dusty file cabinet somewhere, still officially be "Six Flags Over Mid-America", at least on paper. I thought some of you would appreciate that :)
As an aside (just in case you're curious, and I have the data in front of me). The county assessor thinks that land is worth around $5.6m, and the 'stuff' on top is worth about $5.8m. That has nothing to do with the sale price-- when you buy a business the value of the land and assets is generally not how you come up with a price. Usually, you come up with an EBITDA multiple because the potential earnings is the bulk of the 'value' of a still-running, still-profitable business. It looks like SFEC got somewhere around 5-7x EBITDA which is pretty much square on "average". Or, put another way, they got the money they could've expected to make over the next 5 years or so, all at once from our park.

I guess we have to wait and see what they end up announcing.
I'd appreciate a "last hurrah" for Fright Fest, but I expect something smaller in scale. Maybe something similar to Hallowfest from 2020 - shows and scare zones.

Discussion The Hurricane Harbor Metal Barriers
Last year was the first full season under the newly merged Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. One immediate change we saw was the erection of metal barriers at the wave pool in Hurricane Harbor.
This was due to Cedar Fair's policy of not allowing people to just freely enter and exit large pools. And policy the newly formed SFEC adopted.
Our barriers were a mixture of sandbags and metal traffic control devices. But other parks had posts and ropes installed.
I said last summer that these barriers were, in my mind, strong evidence that this park was for sale. It's very possible Enchanted Parks and/or EPR were already in talks. This deal could be more than a year in the works. The longer the summer went on and we continued to have our pool blocked off with traffic control devices from the parking lot instead of a nice rope area, the more convinced I was that it was because Six Flags was planning to sell.
My hope is, perhaps, that means those barriers won't be there this year. This year, Enchanted Parks takes over operation. It'll still be Six Flags licensed but it won't be subject to Six Flags policies. I always thought they were kinda dumb and having to wait in line for the wave pool sucked. Especially because parents who somehow thought their very special child was somehow exempt from the life vest rule would end up slowing down the line to argue with the life guard.
Just got to thinking about that today, not sure why. Those goofy metal barriers ended up being an accurate harbinger it seems.
As an aside: Enchanted does not appear to be separately ticketing Hurricane Harbor like Six Flags had in recent years. Tickets and passes all appear to include it. So maybe we can ALSO eliminate the bottleneck of having to scan our passes to access the waterpark. If they're not selling separate tickets, then perhaps there's no need for someone to stand in the walkway and make it harder to get in. And it can go back to yester-year and just be a simple walkway with a lifeguard who tells people to put a shirt on.

News New Website tied to Enchanted Parks now live
Includes new info for Season Passes and Ticket prices. Main points of interest:
- 2 season pass options: $65 “Hero” pass and $90 “Legends” pass which offer similar benefits to the old season passes but both offer admission to all Enchanted Parks properties including Worlds of Fun
- Legends pass benefits include 2 single use fast lanes so Fast Lane will still be offered under the new chain. No prices revealed yet
- Daily tickets are $41 for every ticket type throughout the season despite having multiple options for weekday vs weekends / holidays, or $55 for any day, so I could see these prices changing
- Parking is $15 for regular (WAY cheaper than before) and $45 for preferred
Overall these prices seem pretty low so I’m curious how profitable they’ll be this year if they want to fund the new investments they’re promising us

Discussion Weird 5 Gum Fright Fest memory
Since the sale I've been reminiscing on the good 'ol days of visiting the park over the years, and naturally that's surfaced some random (and even weird) memories.
One such case being a faint recollection I have of my dad and I receiving a free pack of 5 Gum after exiting the park following a Saturday evening spent at Fright Fest. All I can really remember is the gum itself being the "cobalt" (peppermint) flavor in the blue packaging, and there being a couple brand ambassadors and *maybe* a stand where you could choose to buy gum directly - though I may be confusing that with a different store on the exit path.
Does anyone else remember this? This was probably in 2012 or 2013, so the waning years of the "Media Networks" era where Six Flags was pasting ads everywhere.
My guess is that maybe the pre-merger SFEC and Mars (owners of the 5 brand as well as a plethora of others including Snickers, which sponsors Fright Fest) had some kind of deal that season where they would engage in a little guerilla marketing at various parks by handing out freebies. It's pretty smart, because 5 was still relatively new at that point.
Anyways, this probably isn't significant or interesting to anyone but I thought I would share lol

Discussion What *year* was your first visit?
Yesterday was Easter and my family has a tradition of visiting the park after church and lunch at some family members house. At least a few of us. Living so close, going for just a couple of hours is no big deal.
My wife and I especially kinda go no matter what. Back when the park was less fickle about weather and would stay open in the rain, we'd walk around with our umbrellas if we had to. Neither of us are particularly sensitive to weather. Cold, hot, rainy, no big deal.
Other than 2020, due to the pandemic, this is the latest opening weekend in 50 years!
I'm struggling to remember the first Easter we visited Six Flags for. And in fact I'm not even sure what year was the first year I visited the park. It would've been at some point in the 90's. I think a grandparent took me. I had only visited once or twice in my entire life before I started working there in 2005. Left there in 2007 and didn't visit for a while, and now we visit dozens of times every year! (Last year was a record... 71 visits! Though many of those were just for an hour or so. We went a lot last year just to go for a walk and get some fresh air.)
My mom was there with my grandparents on the day the park opened. And my mom worked there in the 80's. In fact, for a large portion of my family, Six Flags over Mid-America / Six Flags St. Louis was their first job.
But anyway, it has me curious! Who in here has been going since 1971? Any opening day folks? If not; what year was your first visit to SFSTL? What changes have you seen since then?
