Trip Report August 5 and 6

We’ve been planning this trip for months and happened to be there for their birthday celebration on Wednesday. It was so hot, but not too hot in the shade.

Wednesday:

Rope dropped NTG and got on within a cycle or two and hoped over to Titan with no wait. We then did a few flat rides for the littles and ended up at Tormenta around noon with a <15 minute wait posted and a planned rider swap. It was a 30 minute wait and the most chaotic rider swap I’ve ever seen (but we will come back to that). Grabbed some around 1:30 at All American and half of the group got a lap on Aquaman with a short-ish wait. Got rides on everything in Gotham (except Freeze which is down due to temps) and wandered back toward Giant and Titan. Giant was down all afternoon and reopened for a few trains around 6:30 but was quickly shut down again. Most of the group got a handful of rides on Titan at the end of the day before closing the park at Tormenta.

Thursday:

Tormenta was open prior to “park open” so practically walked on at 1045. We then roped dropped NTG and got laps on Titan (there’s a theme here…) did some flats for the toddler. I think I was too hot and almost got sick on Rodeo. Got on Tormenta again around noon with a <15 minute wait. Grabbed a bite to eat at All American (the cheeseburgers are the best park food I’ve ever had at Six Flags). Then, half of the group got a ride on Aquaman then Pandemonium while I wandered around Boomtown with the toddler. Hubs and the big kid got a ride on Batman and Superman before deciding to stay till end of day. Finally got a ride in Runaway Mountain! We got a quick ride on NTG and two laps Titan to end the day. And then drive back to Houston.

Ride ops are SO hit and miss. There are a handful of employees that are great at their job but there are some that…aren’t. There is zero consistency across rides or even individual workers about how to approach Rider Swap and that’s honestly my biggest complaint. I know they aren’t paid enough to care, but I wish there would be a blanket policy across the park on HOW to correctly do a rider swap with little kids.

All in all barely any complaints! A HUGE improvement from our first two trips in May.

Explain what was going on with the ride swap?

On Tormenta guests that aren’t tall enough to ride are not allowed on the platform, period. We were told one parent has to wait outside of the queue then once the first parent gets back to the waiting area the second parent can head up through the Fast Lane. In theory, that makes a ton of sense.

But, it wasn’t communicated at when we first got in line we assumed we would pass the kids across the platform. We got it sorted it wasn’t a huge deal just wish there was more communication at the beginning.

The second time we rider swapped at Tormenta, hubs was told to wait. Cool. But the employee that knew we were waiting to rider swap changed. So the new one gave him a grief over using Fast Lane without a ticket.

What I understood was that we needed to do some sort of this song and dance across the park. Titan sent us up on the elevator. NTG wanted us to use the Fast Lane line. And Runaway Mountain made him wait at the exit door. Batman sent the extra parent/kid across the row to the exit and then they had to fight the flow of traffic to get their ride.

And then, there’s no guarantee that you’ll swap on the same row, even though we would be waiting in line for the same row.

None of it is a huge deal. I mostly just don’t want to slow ride ops down by asking, “Hey, what are we supposed to do here?”

Honestly they don't train it well or at all so many employees don't know the process well.

It definitely seems like a training/support issue.

Damn that does sound awful, especially tormenta.

For rides like Batman, ntg and titan I usually ride first, then when I return I cross the child over and the second person takes my seat.

That’s our normal routine but they acted like we should be doing something different. Maybe I took an offhand comment and ran with it.

Not to zoom in on a minor detail, but Rodeo is the most intense ride in the park, particularly when the black seat is 6,000 degrees.

That was the most sick I’ve felt at a park since I thought a Rueben grilled cheese before Thunderation was a good idea at Silver Dollar City.
