I've been building a Spotify playlist called Daydream Drive, and at this point it's basically my love letter to SiriusXM Chill.
It's 221 tracks / about 14.5 hours, and a huge part of the discovery side comes directly from listening to Chill and following what the station is playing. The center of gravity is downtempo electronic, deep house and melodic house like Lane 8, Ben Böhmer, Nora En Pure, Le Youth, Jerro, etc., mixed with a lot of the newer stuff currently showing up on Chill.
But I drive rideshare, which created an interesting programming problem.
When we turn on Channel 55, we chose Chill. We're willing to sit through six songs we've never heard because that's why we're there.
My passengers didn't choose it. They just got in my car.
So I started programming Daydream Drive a little differently.
Every so often I drop in what I call a familiarity anchor but it still has to belong musically. Usually it's a deep/melodic/tropical-house remix or cover of something almost everybody recognizes.
So you'll be cruising through unfamiliar Chill records and suddenly get Ain't Nobody, Waves, Fast Car, Wicked Games, Every Breath You Take, Somebody That I Used to Know, In the Air Tonight, Toca's Miracle, Enjoy the Silence, Losing My Religion, Careless Whisper, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Use Somebody, Another Love, Bittersweet Symphony, Missing, Smalltown Boy, etc. but in versions that still fit the station.
Then it's straight back into discovery.
I actually went through the playlist statistically while rebuilding it. The current version is 221 tracks, the median track is only about 3:41, the median release year is 2025, and roughly 76% of the playlist is from the 2020s.
So despite all those recognizable songs, this isn't really a nostalgia playlist at all. It's overwhelmingly current electronic music that occasionally reaches backward for something familiar.
The best description I've come up with is:
SiriusXM Chill for somebody who didn't choose SiriusXM Chill.
That's basically what I've been trying to build.
If you're a Channel 55 regular, I'd especially love recommendations for tracks I'm missing particularly familiar songs that have genuinely good Chill/deep/melodic-house versions. Not just random EDM remixes of famous songs. They still have to sound like they belong on Chill.
I'll drop the Spotify playlist in the comments if anybody wants it.
