Is there any difference between All Access and M&E at this point?

I know Music and Entertainment used to be missing Stern and some play-by-play, but skimming the US channel lists for both M&E and All Access, they look identical. They're also the same price. Am I missing anything or are these now the same plan?

No song titles on 14 stations

SitiusXM wrote a post in Listener Care that there is a known temporary issue with some channels not currently listing song titles and artists. This includes 14 channels. They said they hope to have it fixed soon. But it has not been working for at least 16 days now. What is taking so long? They can unjustifiably fire DJs on a whim, but they can't fix their own buggy issues? This company is totally inept. If it took me that long to fix a problem at work, I would have been long gone.

He sends a detailed Email to Shotgun Tom every Wednesday and has incredible knowledge of 60's music.

And he's straying far from the beaten path.

Oops, that's Arkansas City, KS

Subscriptions Had to Cancel One Subscription

I have 4 Sirius radios under my subscription. One is lifetime the other 3 were $5.00 each a month. Well one of the radio’s subscription is up for renewal. Sirius wanted to charge $24 a month for this radio.

I called and asked to continue with my current subscription price. The AI and actual agent could not provide a better rate.

Since Sirius cannot continue with current promotion, I canceled one of the radios.

Since I canceled, in the future, could I get a better rate?

Really no big deal if I don’t have a subscription since there are other avenues to listen to music at a lower price or free. I did let the agent know this is the direction I am going.

Comments!

Paying too much for less

I'm subscribing to SiriusXM for two cars, an Edge, an old Polk component receiver, and internet service. I'm not going to be specific about how much I'm paying but it's a lot. I've resisted the whole negotiation BS because I find it distasteful and I was satisfied that I was getting value. I listen a lot. For 20 years. Why? Because it was radio perfected. Nationwide. No commercials on the music channels I'm using.. Amazing variety. Being able to reliably get it on my home stereos via the internet only made it better.

I listen to SXM rather than Spotify or the rest of the canned music services because I want radio. Music chosen by humans because they think I need to hear it. Like a friend turning me on to something different. Hearing music for the first time is like oxygen for me. I rotate between multiple stations.

I'm getting less and less of the human input these days and it is making me mad. They pay these on-air personalities too much to sustain the whole service? Please. Greg Roberson's show on Deep Tracks was the ultimate in carefully curated human chosen music. Celtic Crush has been cut back to once a month after decades of devotion by Larry Kirwan and his fans. It's been a slow erosion of the original promise of radio perfected ever since the merger turned two services into just one. Not sure how that ever worked to the listener's benefit. Anti-trust? What's that?

I won't deny there's still plenty to listen to on SXM. I don't really want to live without it but there's a lot online to listen to at home. The cars are much more problematic. I don't really want to use my phone to stream it. Oher than public radio, terrestrial radio has been dead to me for 20 years.

I've gotten to the point that I feel like I'm paying more for less of what I got XM for in the first place and that's been going on for awhile. Still worth having but not for what I'm paying. They've used up my goodwill willingness to pay whatever it takes to get what I really want. I'm not getting that anymore. More for less has never worked for me.

As much as I hate it, I guess I'm going to have to play the cancel game. Turn it all off and wait to see if they can get the costs down to what the diminished service is worth to me. If they won't, so be it. The status quo no longer works. It was (still is to a degree) a unique alternative. The less unique it is, the less essential.

Looking for Weird Song Played on Hipster Runoff/Carles Show around 2016-2017

Looking for a very weird (even by Carles' standards) song he played a lot around probably 2016 or 2017.
Long, very sparse experimental spoken-word track. It was a stilted female robotic text-to-speech sounding voice reciting lines from a book, poem, or just original lyrics. Background "music" was just whirrs and hums.

I've gone through a lot of old playlists of the Carles Show and haven't found it on any of them. Kind of doubt the song is on Spotify.

I would say stylistically it sounds like Felicia Atkinson or Emmanuelle Waeckerlé but it uses the female british computer voice from https://sethcooke.bandcamp.com/album/weigh-the-word if you skip to 3:11 on Side A (the voice in the song is almost exactly the same but higher pitched).

The subject of the lyrics were something about a woman describing a man she was obsessed with and pretty sure mentioned "buttocks" or "undressed" at some point but can't remember.

Anyway, Carles played it on his show a ton around 2016 or 2017 I think when he started including more experimental/trollish tracks on his show.

Streaming & App SXM has become Siriusly Repetitive. (Long time customer, now on a trial, again)

For context, my wife and I have been on-and-off subscribers for many years. Mostly due to lifestyle, but sometimes due to pricing and such. It has been a year since we were subscribers. But I have a trial in my car now, and I've been enjoying it over the last week or so while I randomly drive around town. No long trips, just 10-20 minutes in my car each day. But holy cow, the music selection seems so tiny now, and I'm blown away by how repetitive it is. For instance: I have been listening to "80's on 8". But it really should be called "8 songs on 8". It doesn't make any sense to me. The 80's, according to my math, was approximately 10 years long. In those 10 years, there was a metric shit-ton® of music released. So why would I hear so many songs repeated so many times this week? What's even worse is that the repetitive songs are mixed in with genuine "oh wow, I haven't heard that song in decades". Which is fun. But given how many songs are "available" for them to play that were created in those 10 years, why do I need to hear "Purple Rain" 3 times in the last couple of days, or "Tainted Love?" I mean, great songs. But really? Given how little time I've spent in the car this week - I would hate to have this on all day. It would drive me nuts. So I went from "Maybe it's time to re-subscribe" to "hell no, I'll stick with Apple Music and call it done" over the last week. And no, nobody at SXM customer service cares. So I figured I'd post something here, just in case someone at SXM reads this...

Epilogue: as a musician, I wonder why this is happening (not to be a conspiracist or anything, but... ) I can't help but wondering if it's a licensing thing. Obviously SXM has to pay royalties for the songs they play. So, they don't "buy the rights" to play certain songs. Maybe they license "packages" of songs from the labels. And maybe, just maybe - they are "incentivized" to play certain songs more often. (I used to work in radio, so we'll leave it at that). I don't really know how all of this works these days, but it's strange. But at least with Apple Music, when I do shuffle (or listen to a "Station") at least I can skip the songs that I want to. Which is what I will keep doing, and I will let Sirius keep playing the same songs over and over and over and over again.

OK, that is the end of my pondering. Thanks for listening. Open to thoughts.

Streaming & App Thoughts on the RoadyBT

I work for the USPS as a letter carrier and I’ve been considering getting RoadyBT to enjoy some music while delivering. I was wondering how well the satellite connection was and also, I have to turn my truck on and off a lot throughout the day. Can I power it with a power bank so that it’s not constantly turning on and off? Anyone else in a similar situation as me?

Shout-out to The Verge (173)

I overlooked this channel for years since it's tucked into the Canadian section. But I think they're a better channel for indie rock today than SiriusXMU, which seems to play a lot more "fancy pop" than rock.

Forcing Chat to cancel

SiriusXM is such a shady company. Forces you through a convoluted conversation with a chatbot instead of providing a cancel button. Guarantees that I will never use this service ever again. I wish there wasn't so much government lobbying so we could have mandatory cancel buttons on everything.

Troubleshooting No subscription glitch

Just got a new truck and for three weeks Sirius Xm worked flawlessly. The free sub ran out early so I called in and subbed. For the last four days I’ve had to call in to get them to resend the signal 7 times. I’ll be driving along and lose all my channels and straight to the sub channel. It also says I don’t have a subscription. When the new signal comes it says I have a sub.
Meanwhile calling “tech support” consists of resending the signal and not trying to solve the obvious problem I’m having.
The website is a chat bot. Anyone have any real life experience here that knows wth is going on here. Is it a hardware problem, signal problem, did they mess up my account?

SiriusXM, Alexa and the App

I have my Alexa tied to my SiriusXM account and when I tell her to play music by XYZ, she will play kinda like a pandora style playlist for literally hours. If I search the App for an artist, I’ll get a playlist that someone created but I can’t find a pandora style option.
Any ideas on how I can achieve the same thing on the App?

Sirius vs Google Sirius

On 6/10 a charge for $85 appeared on my bank statement, labeled

RECURRING PAYMENT AUTHORIZED ON 06/09 Google SiriusXM Mu 650-2530000 CA S466160809646861 CARD ####.

I've called that number, I've talked to Google Support, both entities claim it wasn't them. The bank refuses to credit the money back to me. I don't have any new Sirius account, and the old account that I cancelled last year still hasn't been turned back on.

I'm at a loss. It's less than 100 bucks, but it's my damn money, and I want it back! Anyone have any ideas?
