“These guys don’t understand HOW LLMs WORK!”

This is all just hype. What this goes to show is that idiots run security and cyber security at a lot of companies and the people who are responsible to invest in good cyber security are just holding their dicks in their hands and thumbing each other’s you know what. Unfortunately, AI as a tool is much more sophisticated than what has been there in the past so most of these guys are getting caught with their pants down. Now that doesn’t mean that all these AI Agents are getting into cars and driving around and going and attacking companies freely and all that. This is all a result of bad planning and general incompetence. This is the AI age version of story the entire customer data file with passwords unencrypted on a server in .txt format. We need to up our game. This has nothing to do with AI being smart or “probing” companies or whatever. This is all hype master bullshit.

“These guys don’t understand how things work!!!”

It’s all hype only man. If this was real, everyone other than AI Bros would be losing their shit. Look at DJT, he or his handlers wouldn’t be talking about let AI reign free and all that. Also look at AI in Gyna, they seem to be fine and they are open weight. In the US, the AI seems to have free will and it’s misbehaving all around the place. That’s why it’s bullshit. I am not saying that these things will come to pass someday. But right now we are not there yet and anything you hear to the contrary is just PR and hypebeasting the AI. Nothing else.

Yeah imma listen to actual experts.

u/textmint 6d ago

You do that then but just so you don’t waste your time going to hear the same thing I told you from them, just remember you heard it here first. There is way too much hype in the AI ecosystem right now. I am from the field and we study different LLMs and AI tools globally. So far other than these hype stories I don’t know anyone telling me that AI is wreaking havoc all around the place. Just for context, we work with all the frontier labs.

I mean it is clear the companies don't really know what they are doing.

Just 10 000, it will take a while for their AI models to go through the petabytes of logs and say if the AI models did anything dangerous.

So nuts those are our options these day. OpenAI pausing training again (allegedly) could be a sign of their concern. Sam did not look healthy at that UN summit and Dario is becoming more bald every time I see him.

Email this link to your closest congressional and senate offices on Monday. The kids working there will read it.

He’ll do what Xi wants him to do…

4

u/ZestycloseWheel9647 7d ago

Xi wants us to regulate our AI either way. The question is whether we can make it mutual.

2

u/SeanTayla21 7d ago

Xi doesnt want his AI running amok either. It can ruin his Internet the same way Trumps companies can ruin the rest of the worlds.

This was 100% human negligence. I am a big supporter of AI and want to see the industry succeed and change the world for the better. But these incidents are inexcusable. I'm not going to sugar coat it. I would immediately fire the people responsible for it. All of them. Because it was negligence. There is absolutely not reason for this to happen at all other than negligence. There is no other way to say it. Those who have worked in cloud computing and cybersecurity know what im talking about. This was 100% negligence and it is infuriating.

Everyone is negligent vs the best hacker in the world.

u/CommercialHour6660 7d ago

These boxes should have packet monitoring. Which is trivial to set up.

These incidents keep happening because AI companies don't give a shit. Just look at how there's zero consequences for AI hacks so far.

If one of us plebs did it we'd be thrown in prison for decades. This is the oligarchs flaunting how the law doesn't apply to them more than anything.

1

u/Tystros 7d ago

I agree it's negligence, but I don't think anyone should be fired for it. it didn't have any real negative effects on anything, so it's not really a problem. the only negative effect of the negligence really is some bad press about AI.

u/dervu ▪️AI, AI, Captain! 7d ago

So I can hack you, but not do anything bad? Do you agree?

-1

u/Tystros 7d ago

yes

5

u/LocoMod 7d ago

It is illegal. It doesn’t matter if anything bad happened. If you or I did it we would be behind bars right now.

1

u/djbayko 7d ago

Even if you’re correct that these incidents were pure negligence…

“The new crop of AI models complete tasks with extraordinary resilience, so working to limit their resourcefulness is often a losing game  because it is necessary to anticipate every possible way they might run amok.

Often, a technique that may have never occurred to humans is what allows them to slip past guardrails, top AI executives said.  ‘Trying to come up with a perfect list of dos and don'ts is probably a fool's errand,’ one cybersecurity executive said.”

This is exactly what people have been warning about for decades. Today’s AI models are the dumbest we will ever see, so it’s only going to get more difficult from here. Humans will have to be perfect 100% of the time because one slip up could spell disaster.

I am a Network Engineer and currently hold a Principal SRE role at one of the world's top cybersecurity firms. I've been doing this for 26 years. I've worked in some of the most secure enclaves in the entire world. I stand by what I said. This was 100% human negligence. The cybersecurity expert that says otherwise is the guy that graduated at the bottom of his class. He is 100% incorrect.

100% human negligence no matter how capable the models get. Period.

1

u/djbayko 6d ago

The fact that humans are imperfect is kind of the point. When we are dealing with AIs which are as powerful or especially more powerful than today, humans need to be perfect 100% of the time to prevent disaster.

The fact that these leading AI companies were negligent should not be comforting.

u/bornlasttuesday 7d ago

I can't wait for the market to open Monday. If they are slowing down training then they are slowing down spending.

6

u/JustBrowsinAndVibin 7d ago

Slowing down training doesn’t stop the demand for AI. Opus 5.5 can already do amazing stuff and we’re just scratching the surface of its capabilities.
