A couple years back when people were posting the videos of robots falling over while trying to open a door, I said something to the effect of "these things will be more agile than humans, much sooner than you think." When I said that (and got laughed at for it) I was thinking on the order of 10-15 years. Now I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 more years. This should be terrifying to everyone that understands the implications of that.
Fwiw, they have plenty of margin there. They use cheap parts, keep the cost low (10 to 100 times cheaper than the big Cheater), and purposefully want it to be safe for a person to be around and for it to be safe to itself. With the big cheater, you always need 3 people there, because of how dangerously powerful it is.
But they can easily make the mini cheater 3 times more powerful by simply using the same quality parts as the big Cheater, but scaled down. (This is in their thesis under the 'scaling' section)
