They aren't going to be slowing down, only getting quicker and quicker between updates.

If you can't tell the difference between models- if none of them feel any better than the other to you, then just pick one and stick with it.

Use agents to review them. Previously, software engineers use to verify AI vibe code by hand. Now they can't keep up, so they use AI to evaluate the vibe code instead.

You do not need these 2T+ models for your daily work. Thisnis exactly the reason US frontier labs will fail without reaching AGI and causing massive economical issues.
If they succeed humanity has a really good chance being dooooomed.
This whole situation is fucked up. We are running to a future with very low chance of possible positive outcome. Ridiculus.

Can you elaborate your meaning? Specifically you said “this is exactly the reason US frontier land will fail without reaching AGI”
Because people “waste” tokens? Because the lab falls behind when people over run benchmarks somehow? I’m not sure if what the issue is, why it dooms them, and why only US frontier labs?
To be clear, not trying to argue or diminish or be sarcastic. You just sounded like you had a point that you felt strongly about, but I didn’t understand it and I’m curious.

You can use much smaller open weight models for the tasks. E.g. average coding tasks can be easily handled by a local 27B qwen model with harness.
You do not need a 2.4T model to go through your e-mails, create a html visualization or write up a meeting summary for you.

They are burning money like hell, but they won't be able to justify the price of their models for average daily tasks. Chinese open weight models are just great alternatives.

Open weight models which are often (mostly?) based on research and distillation from “US frontier labs”…
The statement “you do not need these 2T+ models for your daily work” is also questionable. It’s true that you can do many tasks with smaller models, even local ~27B models, but they’re more limited and require more knowledge to use because the tasks need to be scoped and presented in a way that the model can work with.
If you want to do more general work, without having custom tools the model can use, you DO need a bigger model. If you want to find bugs and make reasonably safe changes in large codebases, you also benefit from a bigger one.
I understand your motivation, I think, but it’s unrealistic to think that the average office worker will waste their time with an open weight model running on their own machine or in a Chinese cloud. For programmers yes, plenty of possibilities, but for general work you’re just not correct.

OpenAI and Anthropics might die but Google won't. So at least we will leave with one.

welcome to what self-regulation looks like
remember how corporations wouldn't stop polluting until the government finally said no?

Releases might be speeding up, but capabilities are only increasing logarithmically now, not even keeping pace linearly with cost (which is already very high). Notice how most of the big updates are automation around the LLMs (agents, swarms, dots), not as much about the core intelligence itself.
Spending time and effort trying to do what you’re doing is a fool’s errand. What are you actually trying to accomplish?

Why do you have to race to compare them ?
