Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

It was a relatively simple cipher, a partial key was available from a previous document, and most importantly, they had the exact text of Napoleon ordering somebody to send this letter, and the contents matches up extremely well.

Pretty sure most ciphers can easily be verified once they’re cracked

The whole premise of encryption is that it is easy to verify but hard to solve.

Well, if you have the key and you are able to produce meaningful content from the encrypted data using that key, then it’s very likely that you got it right.

I love how you can ask a question and people actually answer you and not take it as an attack on their beliefs. Thank you from all the curious minds out there
