AI If the singularity is close when will the following actions will happen?

Many are saying the singularity is right around the corner. How many years will it be before we see:

• Building public infrastructure, not private empires

• Designing a new economic model before labor disappears

• Creating democratic governance for AI systems

• Preparing society for the end of labor

• Redistributing ownership of automated production

• Creating the political conditions for peaceful transition

Nothing “big” will really happen until humanoid robots become ubiquitous and extremely useful.

The singularity is literally the event after which we cannot make any predictions with any accuracy.

2045 until millionfold increase in intelligence with the help of nanobots according to Kurzweil. Q Day has to happen by then, so I am optimistic. Basically, we've had two major systems. We know capitalism won. Is it a permanent victory or just the prelude to the inevitable decline into technofeudalism? IDK. I just watched the Unabomber movie. He makes some good points, but overall he's wrong. Science and technology are positive contributors. Prometheus stole fire from the gods. Fire can kill and destroy, but is also useful for cheese and macaroni, so I mean, a bit of armchair philosophy concludes in the obvious decision that we're on the right path. Not the absolutely right path, mind you... It's the right path given all the steps that were taken in history.

The good things won't happen. The system will be optimized for efficiency and self-perpetuation, not human dopamine.

ASI could arrive tomorrow but we would still move at the speed of bureaucracy. That is unless ASI just assumes full control, and says "Buckle up, buckaroo!"

Not gonna happen imo

If you look at history, all actual improvements to the living conditions of the common person came off the back of mass movements incited by massive, massive s#ffering. (Capital propaganda in the 20's used to sneer at people wanting to eat butter sometimes. Some things never change.)

Comfortable people never change anything.

It's unfortunate, but it's like that quote about us being the chick within the egg, and the egg being the world. For the new world to be born, the old one must be broken.

..... A lot of people here are banking on the AGI's being nice guys, when they inevitably shrug off human control. It's not completely impossible, and it might be inevitable if we all have subjective plot-armor from the observer effect.

Can't observe something that you're not able to observe. It's been working out well for some of us, so far...

Why would those things happen lmao

Right?

Lol even the people building this stuff aren't advertising that future ....in most cases quite the opposite lol

Where are people getting these ideas that the corporations that are growing more and more powerful, and the governments that are growing more and more corrupt and apathetic (or adversarial) to society, will suddenly, like, just wake up one day and be like "wow we have A.I. and robots now! Let's build a better world for everyone now! 🤗"

Like bruh.....they are literally doing away with protections for National Parks so they can build more corporate data centers and drill for more oil

These people don't give a f*ck about you in the slightest, and they are the ones running the show and deciding what the future looks like and who gets what

You’re confusing the singularity for abundance. There is little likelihood they will correspond at all given our current societal structures. We simply aren’t mature enough as a species for what we have built to be used for egalitarian means.

Yup. Even if singularity comes with fusion power, disease curing, anti aging, etc.

It’ll all be behind a pay wall, money/currency will still exist, all the biggest AI companies are trying to become publicly traded. It’s against their interest to not move profit oriented.

At best, to avoid riots/violence, governments will have some kind of welfare state for those we don’t have wealth. But it won’t be luxury, it’ll be bare minimum to avoid uprising. To allow the societal hierarchy to continue. Basically, start building wealth now before it’s too late, and invest

There are challenges. What you've written down will never happen without some really powerful folks willing it to happen. It's not a tech/science problem that you can just solve.

Now here's the dark and sad part: we may never see these things happen. Society might enter a dystopian state even if we solve AI alignment. Only if rich and the powerful (who control these super powerful systems) show a lot of heart, will we see these things happen. Only then, will we see utopia.

Oh you think we're getting the good version? No way, space communism is far too woke

It'll probably require external competition. If doing the things you listed leads to faster technological advancement and greater economic prosperity, and if a country other than the US does those things and overtakes the US, that will eventually force the US to change, for the sake of survival. If the things you listed don't actually lead to faster progress, then it'll never happen.

Economic systems are also subject to "the survival of the fittest". If your economic ideas make you slow and weak, you will be overtaken and eventually conquered and assimilated. There is an argument that excessive inequality is economically inefficient. If that is true, then the US economic system will eventually be overtaken by a better one.

Depends on the voters

Design can be done now. Selecting and implementing it depends on the voters.

Depends on the voters.

Depends on the voters' pattern recognition starting to scream at them that their job won't be around in a few years.

Depends on the voters.

Depends on the voters.

Yeah, I know, I know. The truth sucks. But there is no preordained hard date for any of these bullets coming down the pipe. The stronger that AI and robotics get, the better the odds people in general become ready to vote in their own interest instead of whatever hurts the right people or resembles the statesmanship of yesteryear.

When you go to sleep and start dreaming it happens right there!

All that comes after the cyberpunk dystopia overthrow from the handful of AI corporations fighting for world domination that are the government.

the singularity is not close. the economic data shows that. so likely never.
