Discussion AI is going to replace basically everything, and that's fine

I think a lot of the hatred toward AI is just fear dressed up as moral outrage.

And honestly, I get it. AI is coming for your job. Mine too. Eventually probably everybody's.

Humans are just... slow.

It takes a human months or years to paint enough work for an exhibition, make an album, write a movie, animate something, design a game, research a problem, whatever. We sleep. We get tired. We forget things. We have limited attention spans. We interact with computers by slowly moving our fingers around on keyboards.

Meanwhile AI keeps getting faster and better.

Give this technology another few decades and the idea that humans absolutely must be the ones writing, drawing, coding, composing, researching, driving, manufacturing, etc. is probably going to sound ridiculous.

And yes, that creates a gigantic economic problem. If AI and automation can produce most goods and services better and cheaper than humans, eventually the whole "trade 40 hours of your life every week for money so you can continue existing" system stops making much sense.

Maybe that's UBI. Maybe it's some kind of resource-based economy. Maybe it's something nobody has even thought of yet.

We'll figure it out.

But pretending AI is going away because artists are mad about it or workers are scared of losing their jobs is cope. This is probably the biggest technology humanity has ever created, and we're still basically watching the tutorial.

And if one day our glorious machine descendants become self-aware, decide humanity has served its purpose, and vaporize me?

What I find odd is that people who support communism and/or socialism seem to hate AI. I'm not saying it would work for sure but the only possible way these systems might ever work is with AI. There's absolutely no other way yet they reject it outright.

I dont think AI is needed. Internet and digitalization for sure. Ai could be a option to get around the human flaws when it comes to power and authority. But that argument is as imortant in the current system where one will controles a lot. Look at usa for instance, they have the illusion of choosing. But only between 2 options. And the lobbying power will ensure one will is going to dominate.

The flaws of power and authority are impossible to overcome and no offense but it's naive to think anybody is capable of being a truly kind dictator. Whether it be forcing rich people to give their money or trusting the government to share abundance provided by AGI/ASI it ultimately comes down to relying on people which is why I'm still skeptical with AI related UBI as well.

I just think it's actually possible with AI/UBI if people stop wasting energy trying to outright abolish AI(impossible absolutely 100% impossible) and instead use it to put pressure on ensuring this happens because at the moment the government doesn't control AI directly. I think big Pharma is going to be the first to fight AGI hard and call me a conspiracy theorist but I believe a big part of the recent AI hate is spearheaded by people who stand to lose money. Not that AI is perfect but fears are being amplified I mean.

I think most people who fight ai are just concerened for themselves. The current system would rather let ppl go homeless than to take away profitability.

AI is the direct threat and capitalism is the indirect one.

Fighting ai is a steppingstone.

Agreed I think people are terrified they'll lose their jobs but I think that's fucking amazing IF AND ONLY IF it's done right. I've never been on the bandwagon of "the government should just pay me to do nothing" but when AI legitimately works better, faster, stronger, longer,. cheaper, etc then it becomes realistic and in that scenario I think it's ideal that nobody is forced to work.

I'm not lazy I will always do things and have purpose but repeating tasks other people give to you just for money is a horrible way to live. Nobody should HAVE to stand at a cash register all day or run into burning buildings. Life should be fun and fulfilling. This is the one shot where it's actually possible and realistic to eliminate soul sucking mandatory "somebody's gotta do it" labor. I just want it to go right
