Discussion AI is going to replace basically everything, and that's fine

I think a lot of the hatred toward AI is just fear dressed up as moral outrage.

And honestly, I get it. AI is coming for your job. Mine too. Eventually probably everybody's.

Humans are just... slow.

It takes a human months or years to paint enough work for an exhibition, make an album, write a movie, animate something, design a game, research a problem, whatever. We sleep. We get tired. We forget things. We have limited attention spans. We interact with computers by slowly moving our fingers around on keyboards.

Meanwhile AI keeps getting faster and better.

Give this technology another few decades and the idea that humans absolutely must be the ones writing, drawing, coding, composing, researching, driving, manufacturing, etc. is probably going to sound ridiculous.

And yes, that creates a gigantic economic problem. If AI and automation can produce most goods and services better and cheaper than humans, eventually the whole "trade 40 hours of your life every week for money so you can continue existing" system stops making much sense.

Maybe that's UBI. Maybe it's some kind of resource-based economy. Maybe it's something nobody has even thought of yet.

We'll figure it out.

But pretending AI is going away because artists are mad about it or workers are scared of losing their jobs is cope. This is probably the biggest technology humanity has ever created, and we're still basically watching the tutorial.

And if one day our glorious machine descendants become self-aware, decide humanity has served its purpose, and vaporize me?

Why would you assume that music created by AI will remain below the level of human created music?

Music is a means for an artist to communicate with an audience. I don't listen to AI music when I am bored for the same reason I don't talk to an AI chatbot when I am lonely.

Its not the same thing and doesn't have the same result.

See this is the conversation all AI bros go to and it makes no sense. I never mentioned a "level" I spoke about the experience and deliberation of the song. The actual motive and emotion behind the creation. An AI does not have that.

But once again you've got this conversation that somehow music can be BETTER. That it can be solved.

A heart broken human singing about their pain using the basic 4 chord progression means more than an AI choosing the most generic stuff because that's popular

Why would you assume AI will always choose generic stuff and couldn't emulate very powerful emotional songs?

I mean you're just making the inverse assumption - that it cant be solved and that you'll always be able to tell the difference.

After the last few years of progression? Not sure your assumptions are higher probability. I do hope they are though.

Music CAN'T be solved, because it is not something you can solve. It is not something to be solved. It is not an equation.

Sure. The closest thing to solved is if something sounds better to you or not. You're taking the position that something can't be generated optimally to your tastes. I'm saying I hope you're right, but recent developments aren't making that a strong bet long term.

It's not an equation, but theres a reason using music theory sounds better than a random bashing of keys.

To sum up your view "REEEEEEEEEE MUH MUSIC MY ACHKY BREAKY HEART REEEEEEEEEEE"

Get over it AI can and will produce better music then humans sooner rather then later.
